    P1 Holster Marking

    Hi,

This holster only has the mark "48" on it. What does that mean?

The gun carrying man must have shoe size 48.

No, to be serous, I never seen a holster with only a number. Is there a stamp inside the flap, or traces?

      Tanker Mike,

I've never seen this type of marking on a P1 holster either. Perhaps pictures of the front and back of the holster might help us in giving you a better response.

      Regards,

      Gordon

I was going to make a similar joke, but thought I better not. I am glad someone else had the courage to do it

I also can't think of any similar marking on any other type of holster. The only thing I can think of... a batch number for quality control purposes?

          No other markings

I thought the 48 might be the year it was made but dismissed that idea as soon as I thought of it. Here are a couple more pictures.

            Reproduction

Mystery solved. The seller informs me that it is a reproduction.

Hmm. Someone did an exact reproduction of a post war holster that is readily available? That doesn't sound right to me. Plus, it doesn't explain the "48"

Maybe the seller was trying to differentiate it from a WW2 P-38 holster and simply used the wrong language? Reproduction has a very specific meaning.

I agree Steve. It makes no sense that someone would make a reproduction of a holster when there is a surplus of issue holsters.

Were P1s or P38s issued to any other armies of police forces other than German ones?

It does happen sometimes, but generally it's for things like clothing and not equipment.

Yup, lots of countries. But I suspect they would not use the same holster.

Doesn't make any sense to me, as a small series Repro would be more Expensive as the real ones available on Post War Items.
Maybe a Makers Code, where the original Marking has to be hidden for Export Reasons or so.

Original holster of the P1 type are at 15 € in mint condition. And this holster is quite well made. I don´t think it is a reproduction.

But ... I have no idea what this holster is made for.
