    Bundeswehr ribbon bar-some unidentified ribbons

    Gentlemen,

    I have a medal bar that probably belonged to a senior officer in the Bundeswher and there are two ribbons on the bar I have been unable to identify. Perhaps someone on the forum can so please have a look and let me know your ideas.

    The ones I have identified are, and reading top to bottom from the left as viewed by you;

    1-ORDER OF MERIT-GRAND CROSS-FIRST CLASS (SIX POINTED STAR);

    2-EHRENMEDALLE DER BW;

    3-GOLD CROSS OF HONOUR

    4-BW DEPLOYMENT MEDAL -OSZE1;

    5-BW DEPLOYMENT MEDAL - SFOR;

    6-NATO MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL;

    7-UNKNOWN;

    8-UNKNOWN;

    9-MILITARY PROFICIENCY BADGE;

    Regards,

    Gordon

    Number 7 looks like a Meritorious Service Medal ribbon.

      Hi Gordon,

      I'm sorry, but in my eyes it is a complete nonsense ribbon bar.

      - on the Großkreuz (Grand Cross) the eagle hangs upside down
      - the two Bw decorations are in the wrong order, the eagle of the gold cross hangs upside down; medal and next the cross in Gold is very unusual
      - the Leistungsabzeichen is not allowed on a ribbon bar
      - to my knowledge no Bundeswehr general has been awarded a Grand Cross; maximum "Großes Verdienstkreuz mit Stern und Schulterband", e.g. Gehlen, Altenburg, Wellershof and a few others.

        101combatvet,

        Thanks for your comments.

        Uwe,

        Very insightful as usual. Obviously I should have paid closer attention to this bar.

        Regards,

        Gordon

          I second that.

            I guess it doesn't really matter at this point, but just for the sake of completeness, # 8 is the USAF's Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.
