Yes I have some aluminium oxide powder previously used for other helmet restorations. I don’t have an industrial paint sprayer, so I build it up by sprinkling the powder onto wet paint. It’s not easy to get a fairly even finish, but it can be done.

It is what it is, but I don’t think it looks too bad. Arguably it’s better than an empty shell.

The texturing isn’t quite as even as a factory paint job as the granules were added gradually rather than blown on at once. But overall I’m quite pleased with it. Here’s hoping I can find a suitable chinstrap in the Not too distant future.

I've had some recent good fortune with this restoration project. I've managed to source an unissued example of the correct liner from a UK seller and a used but servicable example of the correct chinstrap assembly from a German seller. Some pictures of the results.

And for the icing on the cake, I'm awaiting a set of West German para helmet liner bolts from a seller in Russia.

I still need two things: an example of the olive green plastic chin cup for the chinstrap and a liner string. (The one on there is a repro M35 I dyed green as a placeholder) I think the latter is a standard West German helmet part. I don't suppose anyone would have a spare of either of these they could sell me?
