Bundeswehr trial Fallschirjaeger helmet. Only 2500 of these helmets were produced. Originally only in blue. Eventually many were painted in a khaki colour. Some of these khaki helmets have a smooth surface and some have a rough sand texture surface.

The G helm

Gentlemen,

This is an interesting helmet from my collection. A G helm set up with communications equipment for use in an armoured vehicle. It probably comes as a set and perhaps only for use in a specific vehicle but I have not been able to confirm that fact. The the receivers clamp onto the side of the helmet and the mike is an integral piece of the right side receiver. There is a clip on the back of the PTT switch and another one further down on the cord clip them to the uniform as well. The helmet and goggles are named to UFw Sprenger. The helmet has the name of two units Sprenger served with in Kososvo from 16.11.200 until 05.2001. This puts him Kosovo close to the beginning of the time the Bundeswehr spent in KFOR. The helmet was made by INDUYCO MUNCHEN.
I am curious about one thing on this helmet. "C1" is written on the back of the helmet and I would like to know what siGnificance this C1 has.

great helmets! Referring to the KFOR helmet "C1" could be anything. One assumption: Within Bw combat companies their platoons often are designated as "Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie" platoons. Maybe OFw Spengler was the commander of the first MARDER Spz in the III. (Charlie) platoon? As I said, only wild guessing.

That is a great helmet, Gordon! I think it's pretty unusual that you got all the pieces together. I would think people with the coms gear would try selling it separate from the helmet.

I agree that it is unusual to get the whole thing still together. Make what is written in the helmet all that more interesting.

Bundeswehr helmets in the UN

Gentlemen,

To continue with more photos of the G Helme lets look its use in the UN. The Bundeswehr does not wear, as a rule, blue painted G Helme. The soldiers are issued a blue cloth cover with the UN decal on the front and large UN letters on both sides of the blue cover. The UN blue helmet covers are the same design as the regular issue camo ones. The have the size of the cover stamped in black inside. This particular cover is marked 58-60.

Now for some UN G Helme that are not worn by the Bundeswehr but are made in Germany by well known helmet makers. This one by Schubert. It has seen lots of use in its day. Note that this is probably headed for an English speaking country as the size is marked, on the liner, with an M for medium.

One more "blue" G Helme. This one has no UN markings and is possibly made for the civilian market such as journalists etc. This helmet is brand new and never issued to anyone. It comes with the instruction pamphlet, in English, tucked indie the liner. Also made by Schubert but with different markings. The liner is marked XL while the helmet is marked GROSS 4.
