What is this BW Soldier wearing?

    Gents,

Any thoughts as to what kind of headgear this soldier is wearing?

Perhaps a safety helmet for an obstacle course? Some kind of mountain climbing helmet?

    Thanks for looking.

    All the best,
    TJ

It's the liner out of a standard BW steel helmet.

Thought it was marker with 4 pins to stamp into the ground to indicate whatever there's to indicate.
Still don't recognise it as liner but I believe Andro.

I'm sorry, I also doubt that this is a standard helmet liner. Imagine the same "construction" with a helmet on top. Or has anybody a helmet with such a liner and will present a picture of it here?

Interesting... I was always under the impression that this was the standard M62 Stahlhelm liner.

            Now I see it !
I believed you the first time Andro but don't tell us you've taken apart a helmet just to show us the liner?
But wouldn't it make an exellent marker though ?
For instance for marking anti-personal mines.
When you find one; put the liner over it with the mine in the middle, give it a good stamp so it's firm into the ground and the mine is marked (indicated) and secured at the same time.
When however the mine decides to go of,you just say you couldn't find any and you've lost the marker.
I should be working for military intelligence,I swear.
            Thank you Andro

I stand corrected! Thanks for the pictures, I'm learning something new every day.

                Kameraden,

Thank you so much for the thoughtful replies.

The soldier's uniform is quite soiled. I wonder if he just executed a combat course and during the course of his exertions, the liner was ripped from the interior of the helmet?

This photo would certainly attest to a rough day of training and the soldier's evident pride in surviving his ordeal.

Again, I thank you for the trouble you took in solving the mystery.

The soiled clothing probably comes from crawling on his belly while probing the earth searching for anti personal mines .
I think it's more relief than pride he's showing.
Relief he didn't find any mines judging by the fact he still has the marker......
                  All the best TJ.
