    Navy, Winter Side Cap.
    Have some boxes with the Enlisted Model.
    Does it has the Rubber chin Strap or was it cut out?

      ...for offiver ranks, indicated by the golden piping.

      Made July 1967...

      Stamped size 58, manually corrected to 54.

        Sorry, forgot the Officer.
        As these were made of pure wool, they shrinked when washed wrong, so it's not unusual that they got a new, smaller number.
        Maybe a kind of Job-creation Program as they did it with all Items back then, even if they were for outphasing.
        Found the Re-sizing in all kind of Clothing and Headgear.

          That's a great explanation for the manual resizing! I've seen this done on all kinds of things, not just wool items. I always assumed quality control problems that were corrected at the time of issue.

            You're right, many of my Feldbluse, Flecktarn are resized, some for the Chest, some for the height, some on both. Maybe the cooked out the dropped Food and then shrinked the Clothing.
            When they found wrong sizes in new stuff, they rejected the whole Order for control and then a Re-shipping to Storage.
