West German Order of Merit 1st Class

Hello

What are your thoughts on this ( order of merit)?
I do not collect West German items.
I looked around and only found one example on a website from Canada.
Are these rare?

These are not rare. I see them for sale on ebay.de regularly. The enamel on this one indicates it is from the later production. In the early years then enamel on these crosses was much better. The catch has either been resoldered or replaced. If you are trying to add one of these crosses to your collection I would pass on this particular one and wait for one of better quality.
