    Bundeslufwaffe Pilots Badges

    Gentlemen,

A fellow collector, he collects Canadian uniforms, has asked for my help in obtaining the first set of pilot wings worn in the Bundesluftwaffe. In Kunstwadl, on page 138, he indicates all of the Bundesluftwaffe wore the "doppelswinge" on their uniform and he shows the pilots badge that was adopted in 1965 but nothing about the pilots badge worn before 1965. Did they actually wear a pilots badge during the time period 1956-1965? If so, what did it look like? The reason my friend has asked for my help is that he owns a uniform worn by an RCAF officer who went to Germany as an instructor when the Bundesleftwaffe bought the Canadair Sabre. This officer has told my friend that the instructors wore the Bundesluftwaffe pilots badge. He may have confused this with the "doppelswinge" insigia worn by the Bundesluftwaffe at this time. Any suggestions you could ake would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Gordon
