    BGS table ware ... from the officers casino

    For years I was quite lucky to find a set of table ware - consisting of a bigger plate, a small plateand a coffe cup with bottom plate - decorated with the old BGS eagle on our local flea-market near Bonn ... but some times ago I stepped into a hoard of this stuff ... hundrets of pieces from big soup bowls to spoons and forcs.

    Maybe an interesting sight for the BGS giys here ? As a starte a bowl for potatoes or other vegetables, a small salad dish and a special spoon ... more can follow up if it is of interest ...

          A friend of mine had to throw away about a ton of this Stuff because nobody wanted to buy it about 20 yrs. ago.
          At least he got some money for the Metal.
          Maybe I have some items left, when I found them, I can show it here.

            Sad story.

            Back then (1980's and 90's) the only interest in BGS material seemed to be from WW2 re-enactors.

            A lot of what I have now (in terms of uniforms) had to be re-instated (remove hokey eagles, etc. and replace with appropriate BGS insignia). Finding field equipment which is still intact (Y-straps; Mess tins; etc.) is a real treat. Finding casino-ware is an absolute bonus.

            That's why I think that this thread is so great. The only other place that I have seen such items is one of the BGS veteran's sites.

              Talking about Mess tins.
              About 5-6yrs. ago I got some, maybe 120-150 of them and except for one!, all were officially outphased by the BGS by hitting them with the edge of an axe to cut holes in the Top and Bottom, so they all had to go to the Scrap Yard.
              My friend also got several hundred "Bamboo" coloured Shirts, all nicely original folded in theit Bags in the original Boxes, so he sold some Boxes to another Dealer who came back after some hours.
              He said he was sweating during the driving and took a shirt out of the Box to wear it. After checking about 20, he found not one of them intact, all had the Sleeve Patches cut out!, not just removed.
              After doing this, they refolded them, put back the Plastic Clamps, re-bagged them and put them back to the Cases so that they look like they just came from the Factory. BGS did many funny things, not to allow others to re-use them or to collect. I bought Helmets with a nice Pickaxe hole in every Top, so, because they didn't stated that in the Offer they had to pay back.
              I bought Helmets and not Scrap from Helmets. Now they do better descriptions. The Bad thing was, they also had original WWII ones in that Lot.

                  You're right with this.
                  It makes sense, that they want to prevent people form using the Stuff, maybe "Playing" a Fed, but you allway's could get Police Stuff easily and for sure there were some crooks around playing Cop and cheating old People, even on the highway, some stopped cars to collect money for speeding etc. or going to old ladies "we have to check you money, we think there are bad people around who try to stals it. Hey, they're allready in the Door. Helmets were a cheap way to play WWII, so they wanted to stop them from doing so by destroying them.

                    More of that stuff...

                    Firstly a contemporary picture of this table ware in use on board a BGS See ship ... please note the shape of the Helgoland coastline in the background (just noticed that myself after loading up the picture...). Probaply taken in the mid- to late 50ies,,,



                    And a big plate for the Braten (the meat)
