Gentlemen,
I had a chance to own one of these caps but I blew it. At least now I can show pictures, and provide info, on these early caps. The info comes from a fellow collector in England.
"The cap has an embroidered Berlin polizie star on the cap band. Only one cap badge was worn on the PPBrln visor in this specific time. This senior officers cap was worn from 1947-61. From 1953 senior officers, Kommissars upwards, had to buy their own uniform so the quality of material varied depending on suppliers. It looks like this was worn after 1953 as it looks quite good quality. These caps were also later worn by the Wachpolizei.
After 1961 all caps had a silver/alu, piping. The lower ranks wore the same style caps but with a metal cap star. Also with white top covers for the traffic police. The cap had a black leather chinstrap."
Regards,
Gordon
