Pre- Amoeba-camo tent gear of the Bundeswehr

Before I studied the pictures of Rolf Baumann I published in my first book I was very sure that the first shelter of the Bundeswehr soldier was the well known one with the amoeba camo design ... but as it can be seen on the early pictures - taken in Andernach and Munster - there was a predecessor in a single colour, most possible green like the tents purchased from 1959 onwards. But sadly these early stuff seems to be used up as it submerged in the later mono-colour stuff...

But now i was lucky that a friend of mine discovered at least the hood with a stamp dating it to 1956 and gave it to me for my collection!! The pictures are not the best, but it can be clearly seen that the design is identical. The colour is a little more greenish than on the later "stone-grey" post 1959 items. Better pictures will follow...

Yes, the color was a very green color. I have a tent section and the hood, but no bag for the accessoires. There were a Army shop which had them in the 90´s. I thnik they were used by another organization or boyscouts or so because they were quite new and dated 1956 and 1957.

Excellent find! I wonder if this was produced for anybody else? Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland all had this type of tent half produced by the same company (and I think one other) in the mid 1950s. All examples I know of are in camouflage, but maybe they also received some solid color types very early on?
