    What Police Force?

    Gentlemen,

I suspect these three men are from Berlin police but perhaps you have some other ideas? The seller of this lots says the picture was taken in 1947 which looks about right to me. TR Tschakos with the early round badge and what appear to be TR police uniforms as well. At least the 8 button ones probably are. Interesting collar tabs on the two enlisted policemen. Comments?

    Regards,

    Gordon

    Gordon,

I suspect, that you are right. Berlin continued to use TR uniforms after the war and TR tschakos for some time after new bluegrey uniforms were introduced. The round badge is same size and shape as used on converted TR tschakos.

West Berlin police with converted TR tschakos for comparison:

Klaus is probably right on the money identifying Berlin, although it really could be almost anywhere in 1947. In Gordon's photo the tunics are NS Zeit with the sleeve eagle removed. The breeches and boots have been done away with and trousers are worn. The later photo from Klaus shows the newly made open collar tunics with slash lower pockets and trousers are now standard.

I have this snapshot photograph with an,until now, unidentified policeman on it.
This could be West Berlin police as well .

My thanks to those who have contributed. While my thoughts were that these were Berlin police there are some differences between the picture that I have posted and later ones. The chin straps appear to be different. Also, the enlisted men's collar tabs in my picture do not match any Berlin rank insignia that I am aware of. So, while I still lean towards Berlin police I think that more research needs to be done in this area.

          Regards,

          Gordon

I thought the collar tabs, that they wear are also TR, but lighting make them look different on a couple men. Could it be possible, that the tschakos miss the chinstraps? Not see any buckles.

Here is Berlin Schupo in late 1945 (or 1946?) with TR collar tabs. Note that the postwar tschako badge has not been issued yet, so he wear the Kokarde, where the badge should be instead.

            Regards
            Klaus

              Klaus,

Now that I take a closer look, the tschakos could be without chin straps. The officer in the centre of my picture, and all of the policemen in your picture, wear the collar tabs that I would expect to see a Berlin policeman wear. But the two guys on either side of the officer in my picture have different collar tabs. I have not had time to look at my reference material. A busy time of the year. Perhaps tomorrow.

              Regards,

              Gordon

Great pics of very early Polizei! I am always fascinated to see the old TR stuff used in modified form.

                    Steve,
I have a TR Railway's Tunic with Bundesbahn Collars. When I found it, I'll post it for you.
