Did the BGS wear these?

This was sold on Ebay as a "BGS SW Polizeilederjacke"--is it truly an issue BGS item?

as far as I know...yes!

although I remember seeing them elsewhere in a more greenish shade...

I do not know if I am allowed to do so, but here is a link of a German Forum I follow in which you can see such garment in brand new condition and in use....actually on wear it looks darker...

yes, part of protective uniform for Sonderwagen crews (with matching leather trousers). Worn 1950s-80s. At first worn with standard Bergmütze, but later (late 60s) special beret was introduced. By 1980s, wear same beret as other BGS units after late 70s. There was a crash helmet, but appear rarely worn in photos.

Later examples seem to be much greener than early ones.

As already said, YES! And it seems that 1963 was a really big year for production of this uniform. Mine is 1963 and I've seen a couple others from 1963 as well. Looking at my pics I see examples made in 1971 and 1977. As Klaus said, the later ones tend to be a little greener than the 1963 type. Personally, I like the 1963 colors better.

Interestingly have never seen one from 1950s for sale or in a collection, although they appear in photos from mid 50s on. All examples offered for sale seem to be 60s and 70s - many 1963 dated examples, as Steve mention. I have been on search for very early set for some time.
