    BGS Diensthemd

    Hi all,

I have these two shirts and I do not know what timeframe they were used for. Can anybody tell me what to look for when trying to establish a rough timeframe?

The first shirt has two shoulder strap loops on each shoulder, the second shirt has a single large loop like post 1976 shirts and jackets.

I have similar shirt to your first shirt, but without slits in sides or signs of the sleeve arch, which make me think late 1960s, yours is probably early 70s. I can post photos this weekend. This style with pointed pocket flaps was issued from mid 1950s to early 1970s. Very early examples have more pointed collar. Sometime in 1960s was added the shoulderboard loops and eventually sleeve insignia. The second shirt pattern was introduced around early 1970s to replace older one and worn until late 1970s/early 80s, when replaced by the "bambusfarben" shirt. This is based on examining photos of BGS magazines and veteran sites over time, so no exact dates.

The first shirt was the schwarzgrün shirt with pointed epaulettes, only worn briefly early-mid 50s. Have not seen one in collection.

    Regards
    Klaus
