BW generals field cap and buckles.

    Hey guys,

I want to show you my new additions.

    1. Generals M43-Style field cap. I´m surprised that the insignia is punctured through the cloth.

    2. Does anybody know wether the buckles were in use by the bundeswehr?

    Thanks for your replies.

    Regards

Yes, no idea about the buckle ... while the open buckle for the Feldkoppel is quite common the open buckle - belt for the dress uniform is very rare. I only know pictures of one original belt, in this caase the frme of the buckle is pebbeled, fixed to the belt in the same was as on the later buckles. So no similatities with your buckle. But as there were several trial versions it would be no surprise if this one is authentic too....

                Greets,

                Jens

                P.S. Nice cap !

                  Hey Jens,

Thank you very much for your comment.

The buckles were found in the pants pocket of a GJ Filzlaus "Kniebundhose".
Maybe the buckles were equipment items just for GJ troops.

I have never heard of a open buckle for the dress uniform but it sounds interesting.

                  Regards,
                  Stefan

                    Stefan,

Interesting General officers cap. I have two. One in dark gabardine material and one GJ in the later light grey colour. Both of my General officers caps have the insignia prongs through the outside material but not through the lining as with your.
Although I hesitate to comment on colours in photos the insignia on your cap does not appear to be the correct colour for a General who wore gold insignia. I do not have pictures of my caps at the moment but I will try and take pictures of them and post them later.
My GJ M43 style hat does not have a makers mark on the sweat shield in the same manner as yours. My dark coloured cap was made by Bamberger. Interestingly it only has a Generals gold cockade and do other insignia on the front. No holes in the fabric to indicate that some insignia was removed. Perhaps left up to the buyer?
The buckles are unknown to me. It would appear that you only have half of a belt. Possibly for a belt for pants? I've attached a picture of the issue BW belts and buckles that I am familiar with. There were private purchase belts worn that are not pictured.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

Gordon, is that last belt maybe THW? They certainly used a BW style belt but made from an aluminum buckle and dark blue/gray belt.

Interesting discussion about lesser known belts. I could swear I've seen an open faced brass buckle designed for dress uniforms instead of the field uniform. I did not find a picture of it (yet), but I did find this odd belt:

Distinctly brass finish. Certainly nothing I've ever seen before or sense. And at least one other person thought it was interesting because I got the stuffing beat out of me trying to bid on it (eBay.de 2010).

The best known picture of the black leather belt with an open buckle is one of the official pictures published by the Bundeswehr in the late 50ies to "promote" the new uniform stile ... I think it is in Kunstwadls book too. MAybe I can have a look on on of my external HDs tonight ...

                            Thank you for your comments.

@ Gordon: It would be great to see your General´s field caps.

@ Jens: I found that picture in Kunstwadl´s book. Do you mean the buckle of the guy on the left?
I only know of one piece in a collection.
