is this a cast copy?

This lifesaving medal looks like a cast copy to me, what with the grainy surface and the shallow details on the reverse. Any thoughts?

Think it is a repro. The orignals are very neat and sharp.

I'm curious why someone would reproduce an award like this. That implies there is a financial incentive. Is there a strong market for such things?

That's what I was thinking too. Nobody wants to buy these awards (except me), then why would anyone take the trouble to reproduce them, as they probably will be very hard to sell too. But then again, this one does not look original to me.
