BW field cap,blue cotton 1963

[STUG III]

Just picked this up, and these are the only photos available at the moment. Is this BW Luftwaffe or BW Marine service cap? Some one has removed the insignia, cockade, and the 2 buttons in front. It's dated 3/63 and a makers name stamped inside. When it arrives I will provide a better shot of it.
Any thoughts on the correct BW cockade, diamond shape or the type with swords or wings below it, and were the buttons blue as well? Thanks all in advance. D.L.

Do you have a good front view from the Insignia-traces?
By know I would say it's the Standard Navy Work Cap.

I bought a couple of these from a guy on UK eBay. There were two styles; BGS and early BW. Some had the "bullseye" and buttons, others did not. The ones with stuff still on them were very small (54) and in bad shape, so I bought a bunch of them and a bunch in better condition without badging and buttons. I need a different color thread to fix the BW type, but I did make two very nice and complete BGS types.

The seller did not know much about these other than he got a large number of them at one time. My guess is that they are both BGS and/or Polizei.

I will take some detailed photos when I have a chance.

Cap look like Bundesmarine. It is same cut as Heer model.

The other caps from that seller were all BGS for green Einsatzanzug. None had traces of Polizei insignia and not seen, that Polizei used such hats (Polizei field caps vary, but are a little different).

I dug out my two types of hats. Both were made in 1963 and the colors and type of cloth is very similar to each other. The color is graublau, such as with the 1963-1965 BGS uniforms. The BGS style cap has a smaller green backed "bullseye" while the BW style cap has a normal sized BW type "bullseye".

Perhaps the BW style is designed to go with the early 1960s work uniform that we recently discussed?

It is possibility, but not sure that I have seen blue cotton West Berlin cap in this style. Only blue cotton Berlin field cap, that I have seen yet was a Schiffchen. It should be stamped PPBln, if so.

Gentlemen,

A difficult cap to identify. But for comparison purposes, here is the Berlin Polizei schiffchen that Klaus mentioned. A diamond shaped badge with the Berlin polizei star was used on these caps and mine is not marked inside for PP BLN as most items from Berlin polizei are. It just has a small whit size tag. The diamond measures 4.5 cm from point to point(1 7/8").
