Premium addition this weekend: BGS Sumpftarn Smock

    Hey guys,

I want to show you my latest addition that I got from a collecting colleague.

It´s a BGS sumpftarn smock in MINT condition. Size 50.
It wasn´t cheap but I don´t think that I find it again in this condition.
The smock has been never worn.

    I hope you like it.

    Regards,
    Stefan

        Congratulations! That is a beauty.

Is that the one on eBay this past week? If so, then yes... you paid a lot of money for it But you obviously know how difficult it is to find large sizes. Usually the "big" ones I see are 48. There are quite a few unissued ones for sale compared to trousers and the 1st Modell jackets.

I have a 50 that is in very good used condition, but I also have a 44 in unissued condition. I can not seem to make up my mind if I want a bigger/used one or a smaller/unused one, and so I have two!

          Hello Steve,

          Thanks for your comment.

That's not the one from ebay. The smock from ebay was in size 46.

          Regards,
          Stefan

I must be confusing the size with another one I saw sell recently. There is usually 1 on eBay every month, either on US or German eBay, and I try to follow each to see how well they sell. Or don't, as is the case sometimes.

Nice smock! Have not seen any for sale in long time until recently. I have well-worn size 48, which is actually rarer than unissued, as Steve mentioned.

There is much misinformation about these, but they were inteneded to be worn as type of windbreaker over the wool uniforms. Most photos of them appear to be worn by ski or mountain patrols in winter.

              Regards
              Klaus

Yes, the seem to come in two conditions... unissued or very used. I've not seen many that are inbetween.

The one from last week sold for EUR 354,90. That is the most expensive I've seen in a very long time. Almost exactly one month earlier I saw one sell on US eBay for $222.50. Many years ago $300-$500 was a solid price range, but lately I've seen them go for less more often than more. I picked up my 2nd one for about $200 last year.

And yeah, 1 for sale per month average is probably too high an estimate. At one point I was seeing them very often, and at least once I saw 2 for sale at the same time, but lately not so much. A few a year minimum, though.

I'd pay a considerable sum for one in size 52.

Judging by how rare and how much money large (54+) Sumpftarn jackets (1967-1975) go for, you will need a big pile of money for a 52 smock

Money is not the issue. Finding exactly what I want is!
