BGS Sumpftarn in Africa or something else?

    Gents,

At first glance I thought this African trooper (Chad?) was wearing a variation of the Sturm manufactured BDUs in BGS marsh pattern. Older variations of this pattern appeared recently during the tumult in Libya.

Now, I'm not so sure. It almost looks like the original WH pattern. What do you guys think?

    Thanks,
    TJ

Look like a commercial Splittertarn pattern in cut of current American field jacket. Definitely not Sumpftarn or BGS. Colours of the pattern resemble some Sturm products, but have not seen this particular jacket. Could not find any infos about its use by Chad, but some of the African armies seem very irregular with different camos for different units. Maybe Steve will know?

A variation of BGS-Sumpftarn with stronger colour contrast was exported after 1970s to Libya and used in some army units until relatively recently, but this is not it.

    Regards
    Klaus

This is a uniform known to the Airsoft and camo collecting communities. I forget the details, but it has indeed shown up in Africa fairly recently. I've seen some shops selling them in my "travels" on the internet, but I do not collect commercial uniforms so I just noted it is interesting and moved on. Sorry, I have to do something to try and not make my head explode with too much info

            Chad camo

That's a crazy looking getup, is the blue part velcro? The camo looks more like WW2 splittertarn.
