I Need help. Is this a Bundeswehr flight jacket

Hello all. I just purchased this jacket. I don't have it yet and can only attach a poor quality photo from the auction I bought if from.

I am familiar with the typical Bundeswehr leather flight jacket and this is not it. Does anyone know what sort of jacket this is?

    Thanks in advance.

    fish70,

Interesting looking leather jacket. Not one I've seen as an issue item for the Luftwaffe. But you already said that. We might be able to help if you would post a picture of the white label that appears to be at the collar. Please post a picture of the label once you have the jacket in your possession.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Thanks Gordon. I do have a photo of the tag from the eBay listing.

Looks like a 1992 Truppenvsuch item. I have pictures of the same jacket with a 10/92 date on the front of the label and "Truppenversuch 1992" on the reverse side of the label.

The zippers are of a type that was used on TruVsu 87/88 Flecktarn Panzerkombi and Parka.

So does that mean it was a trials item that was not adopted?

            It wasn't adopted.

Instead we got non-leather flight jackets in sage-green colour.

              fish70,

Thanks for posting photos of the label. I'd be interested in seeing what is printed on the label underneath the strap at the back of the neck and what is underneath the label. Always interesting to see Trials clothing. Steve and I collect that sort of item.

              Regards,

              Gordon

I received the jacket today. The condition is Ok, there are some light areas on the outside that I thought were some sort of residue but seem to be where the protective leather treatment has worn off because when I wiped it with a damp cloth the water stained the leather until it dried out (bummer.) It is at least a 46 US chest. I wear that in a suit jacket and this is a bit loose on me. There are some punctures on both sides of the collar where rank insignia would have been pinned on a US BDU jacket.

It definitely smells like it was in troop trials. Like it was in a box of camo netting and canvas tents for 6 months or so. If you have been in the service and out in the field you know that smell. The tag inside the collar is the only one I could find (pulled the pockets inside out.) The lining is blue-gray (looks greenish in some of the photos since the light inside and my camera were both bad at the time.) Two inside pockets with Opti brand zippers. The outside zippers are marked Riri Switzerland M6. This doesn't seem like some sort of commercial fake.

0.00% doubt that this is anything other than it appears to be... a genuine 1992 Truppenversuch pilot's jacket. Did I mention there's no doubt about it? Good, because there's no doubt about it

It's a really nice piece. An excellent addition to your collection. I think it has a very nice and functional look to it. I personally found the RiRi zippers on the TruVsu Panzerkombi and Parka to be easily grabbed, but they are obviously significantly more expensive than the zippers they went with. Not surprising as trials items often have nice bits and bobs on them that get trimmed by the beancounters.

                    Thanks for sharing the pics!

Thanks for the input Steve. It is nice to come to a board where the vets are quick to help out people who have just shown up.

                      Cheers,

                      Michael
