    Heer Cuffbands

    Gentlemen,

Since we have a tread running on Luftwaffe cuffbands we should also have one on the Heer.
I'll start with a brief run down now and perhaps add more info later.
The first cuffband in use was simply UNTEROFFIZIERESCHULE. As more schools were added numbers 1,2,3, and 4 were added. The Luftwaffe wore the same cuffband but without the school numbers. On 2 October 1990, the cuffbands were changed to read "HEERESUNTEROFFIZIERESCHULE 1,2,3 and #4 was added on 1 April 1991. HUS #3 was closed in September 1990 and is the hardest one to find because of the short time it was worn. I have one on the way from Germany and that is why this one is missing from the picture.
Panzerlehrbrigade 9 was introduced in 24 September 1987. The officers gold one (worn only by the commanding general of Panzerlehrbrigade 9) and the silver one are done in wire and are shown packaged as they come from LDH. The enlisted man's cuffband is shown in thread embroidery.
The Heeresflieger cuffband was adopted in 1973.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Great cuff titles, Gordon! Cuff titles (Aermelbaender) have a long tradition in the German Army. If memory serves right the first cuff titles with "GIBRALTAR" motto were worn by imperial regiments.
I'm adding some of my collection: Unteroffizierschule II and Heeresunteroffizierschule III, both already mentioned, Wachbataillon, that also exists with dark blue backing for the Luftwaffe uniform.
As far as I remember the "Unteroffizierschule" was exclusively worn by Luftwaffe, I have depicted it separately, maybe somebode can confirm.

Not to forget the "Offizierschule des Heeres" that also does exist in gold of course. Depicted is an uniform of a member of the OSH. Please note that this Panzer-Oberstleutnant, wore machine embroidered titles and shoulder sleeve insigna, not uncommon at all.

      Lars,

Thanks for adding the cuff bands that I do not have in my collection. I am still searching for the blue Luftwaffe Wachbataillon and the army and the luftwaffe UNTEROFFIZIERESCHULE as well as the officers school one. My reference material (GERMAN MILITARY CUFFBANDS - 1784-PRESENT by Gordon Williamson and Thomas McGuirl) indicates that both the Heere and the Luftwaffe wore the UNTEROFFIZIERESCHULE cuff band. The Luftwaffe never had numbers on theirs.
As for the GIBRALTER cuffband, it was originally awarded to "King George III, (of England) in his capacity as Elector of Hanover, issued a Royal Warrant on October 14, 1784 authorizing the three battalions (the first battalions of the Regiments von Reden, de la Motte and von Harden (later von Sydow of the Hanoverian army) to be known everafterwards in their regiments as "Gibralter-Bataillone". These battalions had been stationed at Gibraltar, with the British army, during the siege of Gibraltar by Spanish forces in 1779. The design of the this first cuffband was different than the one issued and worn in the German army at a later date. It was a blue band, edged in white, with yellow lettering of GIBRALTAR and zig zags along both edges. One of these cuffbands exists in the Staatsarchiv Hannover. It was awarded only to "reenlisting NCOs and soldiers who had been part of these battalions during the siege. it faded into obscurity with time but was awarded again, as a traditions cuffband and in a new design, by an A.K.O. on 24 January, 1901, to the three successor units of the Gibraltar battalions.

      Regards,

      Gordon

        Gentlemen,

To add some more info, and some pictures, here is an almost complete write up on the GIBRALTAR cuff band.

Great info on the GIBRALTAR, title, thanks for posting the link. I wonder if anybody out there has an "Unteroffizierschule" cuff title woven or embroidered on black cloth. Mine is clearly visible made with dark blue base material. Would like to confirm, if this one was worn by Army personel as well. You'll never know...

            Lars,

Something I would also like to see confirmed by seeing one in dark grey.
Thanks to the post of your cuff bands I went looking for an Offiziereschule cuff band and found a uniform, actually two, on with these cuff bands on them on ebay.de so I bought one of them.

            Regards,

            Gordon
