A curious M62 Helmet.......

Any input is welcome.....of course could be a real fantasy piece but what I can say for sure is that the "Lucky 7th" logo is a decal and very old applied.....
Someone could help us to understand what is it?

Its possible the 7th Armored were stationed in Germany during the cold war era, im sure those details can be checked...and maybe a decal was put on the german helmet as a souvenier or maybe the germans did a joint exercise with the americans and a tribute/trophy type of helmet....or of course someone could have just put the decal on there for the heck of it...who knows for sure....mike

Dunno!! I think a souvenir piece is a good guess. More specifically a US soldier who was tasked with training Bundeswehr. In the early days US soldiers often wore Bundeswehr gear so they didn't stand out for spies. Perhaps they US soldier wore this helmet during his cross attachment and kept it after??

I had a rare German tanker helmet from the 1950s with some Leopard tank stickers on it. The stickers were quite old, but obviously not original

Hope we can go further to solve the mistery...
As "souvenir" it would be eventually proper a sticker but this is a decal and it is old! that's why I am totally confuzed!!!!

Not know anything about US Army units, so looked up 7th Armoured Division and found veteran's website (surprised, that no one else looked it up). Unit was part of German occupation, but was deactivated Oct. 1945 and only briefly reactivated during Korean War, but never deployed outside USA.

So it become more complicated! Problem is, that 7th Armoured Division never existed as contemporary of Bw. I think collector applied, but maybe long time ago. Maybe even veteran of this unit, who serve later in another American unit in BRD?

Thanks Klaus, I already seen the site that you gently provided but it underlined my confusion due, as you rightly say, there is no trace of the Lucky 7th Armoured Div. after the 1945 and a reprise into the korean war....

What makes me crazy is the fact that it is a decal applied and not a sticker.....
Maybe I could contact the veterans website???

New possibilities:

1. Random guy had sticker and put it on the helmet for fun.

2. Veteran of 7th Armored, or a relative, put it on a German helmet not knowing the difference between it and an American helmet.

Because the division was inactivated in 1945 there's very little chance that a veteran of the 7th was training BW personnel in the early 1960s.

Between the sticker and the repainted outside (looks repainted anyway) I'd say there's no collector value in this helmet in its current altered state.

Thank you Steve, I agree at 100% that pobably there is not any collector value on this helmet but I simply find interesting for all of us if we can find any little proof of what could be!!
