Two-piece hood

This two-piece hood came with a couple of Bw garment. Stamps on both parts read: "1885 1990 Gr.2" The chin strap button is marked "Solido". Is this Bw as well? Has anybody a postive ID? Thanks in advance!

This appears to be a winter tanker's helmet. To me it looks like it was produced in the time between the collapse of the DDR and official Reunification. The stamp looks like DDR typeset and the top number appears to be a DDR factory number. As I understand it many factories tried their hands at various things in order to stay in business after military contracts disappeared.

It's an East German Cold Weather Hood to wear with Ear Defenders.
Was maybe also used in the West German Army during the transitional Period but is an EG Item.

BTW: the Loop on Top holds the Ear Defenders Top and the Holes fit the ED's Cups..
1858 is for VEB Elstermode.

Steve & Nico, thank you very much for your replies! That's exactly what I thought. Meanwhile I found out that the former owner served with a Bw Heeresflugabwehrbataillon in the early 1990's.

Makes sense! If you were manning an anti-air cannon in the winter you certainly would want your head protected from the cold and your ears protected from the cannon fire
