    Bremen police tschako plate

I have this plate but does anyone know if it is pre or post 3rd Reich.
I know this much that the old tschako plates were in use a few years after 1933, maybe up to 1936 or 1937.

    Gismo,

I am going to post your picture here for reference purposes with my answer.

I don't have any Bremen plates from the period 1933-36/37 era so it is difficult for me to say if it is pre-war or post-war. I don't have any reference showing it in used in the pre-war period but it was definitely worn this way post war. The centre piece post war was held on by tabs as the stars were generic. I don't know if the same method was used post war. If you could post a picture of the rear of the plate and some measurements perhaps I could be of more assistance.

    Regards,

    Gordon

      Gordon,

Thanks for your answer. I briefly checked the plate. Posting a picture right now is not possible since my camera is away together with my wife.

The centre piece is held on by tabs. The plate itself has two screw posts that goes into the tschako.

The city seal for Bremen was most likely the same pre & post WWII.
I have seen several other German tshako plates but those centre pieces has been without any colour what so ever.

I have rather much of German Police insignias. Perhaps German Ebay is the place to put it on?

      Regards Gismo.

PS. I have been with the CPICA (Canadian Police Insignia Collectors Association) since 1998.

        Gismo,

        I didn't look closely enough at my reference material this morning. I had an early meeting and rushed off an answer to you. It is possible that your star is post war. My reference for this is "Polizei-Abzeichen Helms -Heraldik-Historie 3. Band 1945-1993 by Erich Radecke. Here is what he has to say about post war Tschako stars in Bremen;

You don't need the English translation but I'll post it here in case others find this thread of interest. It isn't a great translation but good enough for my purposes.

In Bremen and Bremerhaven, Shako was still in use, alleged respect for the leadership of the enclave could be according to the principles of the British zone management.
Insignia on the Shako was a star with the Bremen coat of arms/key in Bremen (see section 2.11.2 in band 1 Fig. 3/270, details
The silver key was reproduced in this star on a red background as in the coat of arms, it was also the only one of the many stars of this time, where the coat of arms of an oak wreath was surrounded and so almost faithfully the stars of before 1933 the same. The first star worn from 1946 were made of aluminum, which were unsightly in the course of time;End of 1952 was the procurement of new stars were aluminum, the procurement of new stars polished white metal (German silver), also nickel limited pieces same manufacturing.

        Regards,

        Gordon
