      Gents,

Here is that additional photo I discussed earlier.

It shows a few additional vehicles and registration numbers.

      All the best,
      TJ

          Hello Gents,

Today I received a miscellaneous lot of early post-war photographs from both the BRD and DDR.

Included amongst them were these photos of the G.S.O.

The G.S.O. tab in these pictures is different from the ones seen earlier in the thread. One can also make out the horizontal rank bar that Marc mentions in post #8. There also appears to be a two letter designator under the G.S.O. tab. In this case it looks like "WR" or "WB."

In any event, I hope these photos add a little more to our collective knowledge.

          All the best,
          TJ

Here is the other photo giving us another view of the "new" style tab.

From the bottles I see under the bar, it looks like it was fairly well stocked. Just the ticket for professional drivers.....

Maybe a W.S. for Wachsoldat? I have some curved Berlin ones matching the Burning A....hole somewhere.

Great thread. Obviously the G.S.O. was the forerunner of the G.S.U. (German Service Unit, later: German Security Unit). So W.S. is for "Watchman Service" according to the interesting site of the British 248th G.S.U. Berlin. This site mentiones the wear of the letters "W.S." on the uniform:

                http://www.248gsu.de/index.php/gesch...e/1950er-jahre

There are many more intersting informations and pictures on the other pages of this site.

there is currently GSO tunic for sale on ebay, if anyone is interested (or for reference purposes). Curious, if anyone has ever seen the other parts of this uniform like the trousers or caps?
