I think that we are confusing colours here. There is no doubt that the Heer wear a Khaki coloured helmet and so do the Marine flieger. If you follow the Youtube link I posted earlier you will see Khaki coloured helmets on the shelves where the guys get dressed and in wear in the helicopter. At the same Youtube site you will find a video on the Marineflieger in the Sea King helicopter. They are also wearing khaki coloured helmets. When I say brown, it is meant to include any helmet that has a green/brown shade of colour. It is all in the eye of the beholder. You call them green and I have referred to them as brown. They are not different helmets. They are the same ones. I've posted a link to the Sea King Youtube video below.

Gordon, that's exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the colour may appear brown in pics (or videos, in this case).

But believe me: The real life colour is a green shade and no document in the German Armed Forces referres to them as "brown" ...

Often the new sage-green flight clothing which appears bluish-green let the olive-drab stuff look brownish. It is better to judge the colour when the flight crews wear the old blue suits like this SeaLynx crew here:



By the way, due to my photo stuff I work with a colour-calibrated screen. Don't know what colours Your screen is showing You ...

Ok then green it is. In English it can be referred to as either green or brown but since we are dealing with German helmets we will say only green. The flight suits look blue on my screen and the helmets are green, or what the Brits call "khaki" which is sort of a mix between brown and green. But again, for our purposes green.
The flight jackets, and flight suits, worn by the Marineflieger in the Sea King video I posted seem to be green as well. Are they the new flight gear that you mention above as being of a bluish-green colour?

Interesting to compare the two labels. Made a few months apart in the same year. Thanks for posting the picture of yours.
Interesting to see where the Marine ranks were worn on these suits in the Sea King video. I'll have to see if I have any velcro backed Marine insignia in my bag of rank stuff.

Is there any in depth information in circulation about the West German Marineflieger? All Ive really been able to find was a quick two or three short paragraphs on the history of German Naval Aviation on wikipedia and there's a brief website that appears to have an English translation to some of its pages but there's yet to be anything really in depth regarding the operations of West German Marineflieger units during the Cold War.

First, the oxygen mask which is attached to my HGU-55/G: It is called HA/LP - no clue what that is, sorry.

And the colours: The new fligzt suits are salbeigrün (sage-green), the Army and Navy helmets are olivgrün (olive-green).

The mask is a Gentex High Altitude/Low Profile (HA/LP) mask and a derivative of the USAF MBU-20/P mask, as the internet site of the manufacturer just told me.

Ive heard of these masks before, there is a website that I used to visit for much of my flight gear as a military contractor that sells the HGU-55 and subordinate parts for differentiation between use in helicopters and jet aircraft
