Post War Conversions

Today I want to start with a british 25 Pounder shell, converted into a Bedwarmer. I got it from a guy who got some different ones from eastern Frisia.
I also plan to buy the other ones when he comes to Berlin, so I post them here when I got them.
Maybe somebody else has some War Material used in Civy life after the War.

made from a M18 75mm shell.
inside an asbestos and spiral metal wire heating element.
story goes that this was made just post war at former concentration camp Vught by german POW's or dutch detained colaboraters.

you used to find items like these on every flea market in holland.
often 25 pounder shells converted into decorative pieces.
brass was popular in the fifties and sixties as a home decoration style.
a lot were home made then.
also craftsmen students could turn in converted shells as a workmanship piece.
it is really folkart.

enameled wartime gasmask cannisters converted in to milk jugs.

Little bakelite boxes for ignitors ... civilized by grinding off the inscription naming its original content.

At home I also have a cup made of a part of a Panzerschreck reused as cup, also in that brown enemel...

could it be that this cup is one like yours ?
I know it's a conversion but not from what.
the other cup is from a gasmaskfilter dated '41 and the kitchen item is made with a part off the civilian wartime gasmask filter.(volksgasmaske)

dyed brown wehrmacht stiefelhose.
and trousers made off a US blanket.
after the war people had to wear something.
found a lot dyed clothing over the years.
this one is probably ecoline based dye coulered,so not worth the effort discoulering.

a womens greatcoat and a typical style jacket with interesting flanel like lining.
I had a discussion once if this stripe could be related to the famous inmate stripes.
wartime fabrics reused and worn postwar.

Wow! Great stuff! I especially like the reuse of the gasmask cans. Odd to think they were more useful as milk jugs than they were as gasmask holders, considering how infrequently the WH ever used their gasmasks

reused postwar as a firemans helmet.
painted black and fitted with a leather neck flap.
much later a collector removed that black again but left the rivets of the neckflap attachment.
