    My first BW Splittertarnanzug!

I'm sure just about everyone on the forum has one of these but I am excited to finally find my first one. It is missing the hood but does have the belt.
The size is probably between med to lg. It shows lots of use and has repairs and patches on the pants. No visible damage to the coat.
I have no intention on selling it but would appreciate someone giving me an idea of the value so I know if I got a good deal or not. Thanks.

Congrats! It's always a little hard to tell which color variant I'm looking at when the uniform is this worn, but it appears you have both items in the Blue variation.

First off, the belt is usually missing or at least was removed (as is the case with yours). Which is kinda funny because it came sewn onto the trousers, which means someone had to work at it to get it off. I've always assumed it was uncomfortable for the soldier and soldiers tend to act when uncomfortable.

Second, the hoods are rarely sold with the jackets. And when they are, chances are they were not together while in service. Hoods are found on eBay more frequently than the belts, so if you look consistently enough you'll get one.

Lastly, the damage/repairs seen on your uniform are pretty common ones. Especially the lower leg repairs. I've seen plenty of trousers for sale with worse damage that wasn't repaired, so at the very least you have one that is probably exactly like it was the last time it was used by someone in the BW.

About value. These uniforms are in high demand since they were only manufactured for about 2 years and were worn for upwards of 8 years. Which is why they aren't all that easy to find in better condition than what you have. And when they are... oh boy does the price go up steeply.

Prices lately have been all over the place. ROUGHLY speaking for decent condition stuff you can expect to pay roughly:

    Hood - EUR 25-40
    Jacket - EUR 90-200
    Trousers - EUR 90-200

For a really good example, add about 50% to both the low and the high end.

Over the last 15 years I've probably had a dozen pieces, jackets and trousers, in my hands in order to get the 4 pieces I've kept for my collection. That's how many times I found something in better condition than what I already had. In fact, I have another jacket on it's way to me now that I'm hoping is better than what is in my collection.

Sadly I sold my Sets many Years ago to a well known Dealer from Northern Germany. I think I was to cheap, even over 10 Years ago, because he bought all I got. I had some complete Set's right out of the original Box and in very good sizes, most of them were to big for me and I normally wear a german 56.

Your stories always make my heart ache

An unissued set of Splittertarn (jacket and trousers) would probably go for around EUR 800-1000. I'd be pretty tempted at that price, and I'm not someone who likes to overpay.

Thanks guys for the feedback! So $130 was a good deal I need to know these things so my wife doesn't think I'm throwing away my money.

The bad thing is that I can't keep everything to wait for good prices.
I think I sold them between 220and 250 Marks at that time.

sammlermws - Congratulations on a great find.

I remember the feeling of triumph I felt when I finally got a set in my collection some years back.

Between your Army surplus store haul and this acquisition, I'd say you're doing pretty well for yourself.

Again, congratulations on a great find.

              All the best,
              TJ

Nico, I feel your pain a little bit. I sold a bunch of French 1950s camouflage uniforms for $100-$250 each piece. That was 4 years ago. Today some of those pieces are going for $400 and more. The same problem... how long can I hold onto these?
