Unknown Early BW Helmet cover and Overpants

    Please help identify these items.
Early BW camo helmet cover. It is too small to completely cover an M1 helmet. Maybe a CVC or small flight helmet? The white band is elastic

Here are overpants. Only one cargo pocket, and pass through openings on the sides.

Helmet Covers from this Material were made by Regimental Tailors from old Shelters and their Hoods. They never came from the factory. So who knows who made them for what Helmet. Maybe a Tenker or so. Misterious Cord sewn to it. The "Ears" with the Elastic reminds me on British Tankers Helmets.

        Hej there !

        Sorry for late reply.

The helmet cover is a "field made" item using fabric of the shelter helves. It was common from the 60ies to the 80ies until the five-dot camop covers were offcially issued in the late 80ies.

The trouser is a mistery item ... known as made from 1959 onwards to at least 1975 (thats the date one of mine bears) it is not known from the common publications. From a depot label I know the denmomination "Hose, Überzieh" ( Trouser, pullover-) and a guy I know told me that he got one issued in the late 80ies as working suit in this time...but thats it.

        Regards,

        Jens

I will start taking the cover with me to military shows and ask around if guys will let me try and fit it to helmets. It may fit the US T56 tanker helmet. Possible since early BW used US equipment. Thanks for the responses!

I agree it probably was worn over a US 1960s/1970s style tanker helmet.

Jens is correct about the trousers. We had a discussion about these a while ago. I have at least 3 different versions of these trousers and yet nobody seems to know what their purpose is! All I know is STURM wound up with container loads and dumped them here in the US. I had maybe 30 or 40 to choose from at my local surplus shop, which normally does not have much of this sort of thing.

Lately I have been just trying to snag anything early BW and only bought them because the 1959 date, and they were just $10. Something to help fill the rucksack or duffle. The cover was a whopping $5.

It's only fair since you Germans have all the good stuff to choose from
