    JaboG 43 ground crew patches

There are lots of reproduction patches out there but originals are not that easy to find.

Here are the patches from an NCO that served in the ground crew of JaboG-43 during the 1980s.

Wartungs und Waffenstaffel of JaboG 43 (refit and weapons crew) Alpha Jet

Instandsetzungsstaffel JaboG 43 (repair crew) Alpha Jet

    JaboG 43

JaboG 43 ended its existence in September 1993 with 400.000 logged flying hours.

The mess-hall at Oldenburg Fliegerhorst of JaboG 43 (note the technical-squadron badges are on the wall next to the flying group badges).

Comparison of the original 1980s patch to a modern reproduction.

    naxos,

Interesting badges. I see lots of the technical sections badges on forums for sale but don't buy them as I figure the majority are reproduced ones. Nice to see some comparisons between real and repro.

    Regards,

    Gordon

      Thanks Gordon,

The market is so convoluted with reproductions, I think it is a good idea to start a data-bank of known original patches for comparison.

Have attached a slightly different variant of LeKG (Leichte KampfGeschwader)43 patch. Have had this since late 1970's, so would imagine that it is original.
Have also attached patch of LTG 63, which I acquired at the same time from a serving BW soldier.

Very nice older patches Thanks for posting!

LeKG43 was renamed again to JaboG43 in the fall of 1979

What is an original patch for You and what is a reproduction? Could You give me Your definition, please?

              Good questions.

1.) What is an original patch?

An original patch - is a patch that was either worn in the Bundesluftwaffe or is a new patch that in material, detail and manufacture conforms to a known worn patch.

              2.) What is a reproduction?

In the case of units that are no longer in existence like JaboG43 and LeKG43 - any patch manufactured after the units were decommissioned, I would call a reproduction (especially twenty years or more after).
For existing units - any patches manufactured exclusively for the purpose to sell to the public and differing in detail from the patches that are worn by the Bundesluftwaffe, are reproductions.

That is the best definition I have read so far and I will adopt it.

To the (very small) remaining gray areas: What is for example with a MiG-29 patch made by the same manufacturer but produced today and not until 2004 when we phased out the last FULCRUMs? When You put it beside a patch made before 2004 You cannot spot the difference.

If you can not tell the difference, they might as well be original

It just lessens the value of these particular patches

They are original, but just produced a little late ...

Honestly, I do not know if the PAO of our wing ( JG 73 "S" ) sells old stock or just ordered new ones ...

                        .

                        Oh, thank You!

I am a reserve officer doing my annual exercises in the wing since 1995 as a public affairs officer, so next time I will ask the guys at the office how old the patches are ...

At least my own "Fighting Fulcrum" patch on my flight jacket is original by every definition, I got it as early as 1991 after my first MiG-29 rides.

Slightly off topic, but I've attached photos of a LW booklet dated 1972 and showing LW badges of that era.
Naxos, the only reason for my referring to my badge as being LeKG 43 was because it dates from that era, which you were obviously aware of anyway.

Could you show us a "Ziegenhaut" from JG 73 "S" ?
