Women in the BW-Limitation on service

    Gentlemen,

usmedalman made a post on this topic on the thread I started on women's uniform but it was too far off topic to remain there. I think he has an interestign question so what he ask is printed below. I would be very interested in the answer.

    Regards,

    Gordon

"This is a bit off topic, however, do you know what limitations there are on women serving in the Bundeswehr. For example, in the US Army women cannot serve in a combat arms branch (infantry, artillery, armor, etc.), however they can serve in other branches within a combat arms division. i.e. female Military Police serving in an Infantry division.

This poses a unique situation such as occurred during Operation Just Cause when a female MP captain earned a Silver Star for combat heroism or in Afghanistan where a female medic with the 82nd ABN earned a Silver Star."

Since January, 1st, 2001 there are no limitations for any sevices or branches on female soldiers in the Bw.

Lars, that is very interesting. No limitations at all? So there are, or at least could be, female infantry soldiers or tankcrewmen?

I think I read some time ago where the Dutch had lifted their limitations back in the 1990s but never knew how this worked out or if it had an impact on the readiness/combat capabilities of their military.

You are right, NO limitations, even KSK. I'm unsure if a femal soldier passed the entrance test successfully yet. But it is possible.
