    White Casino Tunic

I do not collect uniforms but found this one recently. It's a white so called "Casinojacke" which had a very short lived presence in the early 1960's. The tunic is in rather bad condition, heavily yellowed with two buttons missing. Any handy tips how two bleach this uniform are highly appreciated!

    Lars,

Washing these jackets is something that I would not recommend. They never look quite the same again. I tried washing a sandfarben tunic and ended up taking it to the cleaners to see if they could bring it back to life. I would go to a good dry cleaner that you have used in the past and talk to them about cleaning your tunic.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Lars, I totally agree with Gordon ! Take it to a trustable dry cleaner and it will look much better afterwards....during the last two years a hell lot of my BW stuff went through their baths and all looked much more better ...and nothing was destroyed, no label lost its stamping etc...

The buttons are easily replaed as they are only secured by metal rings on the bakside ... they should be removed before the cleaning anyway. If you need buttons and rings I may help you ...

      Regards,

      Jens

Gentlemen..."What is the Casino jacket" ? when was it worn and by whom...all services or just the Marine ? Has anyone got one to show with all its insignia, if any ? I am curious..heard about them, never seen one !
          Thanks in advance, S.L.

The specific jacket mentioned here is the only white jacket Heer and Luftwaffe had during all the years. Invented in the early 60ies it was conforming to the rules until the early 70ies. It was always a piece of equipmet that had to be purchased privately.... It was intended for internal use during the summertime only.
The Bundesmarine was and the Deutsche Marine is the only branch which had white uniforms during all the years.
            Both types are different !

Jens, super tunic...so no collar patches only shoulder boards worn on this tunic, and as on the sandfarben tunics, no armshield...looks like yours has had a ribbon bar. Thanks for showing...

"... looks like yours has had a ribbon bar."

No, no decorations or other badges, only the (removeable) shoulder boards.

And only in the time April to October!

Uwe is 100% correct if we follow the regulations ... nothing should be mounted to this jacket then the boards.

But the loops for the ribbon bar are authentic on this jacket. It came to me togehter with a complete set of other uniforms from one soldier (standart four pocket tunic, lightweight summer tunic, two pocket tunic), all in one size and with the loops in the same place ... so at least this guy ignorred the ZDv in this point.
I also know one of these jackets equipped with removable collar-tabs...

According to the owner thes were attached with a hook&loop system as it is used on braas and other civilian clothing ...

...and meanwhile I saw another authentic set of uniforms containing a white tunic with loops for two fourplace ribbons. Its from a Luftwaffe officer and both ribbons are still on one of the blue uniforms, both with matching loops like the white one...

A jacket was on eBay last week. I got my butt kicked. It sold for EUR 106. Here's a link to it:

Pity since I have the Sandfarbe and Grau versions of this jacket. Weiß would complete the set!

Steve, sorry, but I bought it ! .....a bit expensive, I was shocked I paid so much ! It arrived today, it is in great condition, slight mark on bottom of left lower pocket , no ribbon loops, not had any other insignia on as per regs...except shoulder boards, not dated, has the cleaning label, and is fitted with dull gold buttons and I think it could be an early one, as it has the internal shoulder pads (fastened by 3 press studs) fitted, as on my type 1 sandfarben tunic (a type 2 is in the post to me, 79' dated) I asked all the questions as I have no reference works/books, Schusters is on my xmas list !
