They banned the one with the skull for its resemblance to Waffen S.S. skull insignias I take it?

A few of us wore a small skull that you could buy in the cantine. It was the "Braunschweig" pattern. And yes it was forbidden because everything relatetd to the former Wehrmacht or SS was forbidden in the mid/late 90´s.

I once assumed that this is a repro badge, which happens to be flagless:

This thread reminded me of this badge and made me curious enough to do a quick search on Moussa Dadis. I was quite surprised to learn that the badge may be real after all:

Gene T - Very interesting. It's a similar situation to foreign students attending West Point in the USA and then turning into dictators at some point after their return home. Goodbye "duty, honor, country"...

We learned a couple of months ago that foreign students training with the Bundeswehr wear a tab on their dress uniform depicting their home country. Could it be that they are issued flagless beret badges as well?

Or did Dadis buy his unofficial badge in the cantine as reported by Uncle Kurt?

            All the best - TJ

since this thread is about the best looking beret badge of the BW past or future I can show a few different makers.
maybe it's harder to find two alike then variations, because even from the same maker there are subtile differences.
I and some of you like that I know.
              left to right,top;
PuC marked for ;Paul Cramer & co Lüdenscheid,
FLL marked for;Friedrich Linden GMBH metall und kunsstoffverarbeitung.
JMO marked flagless one for;Julius Maurer,Oberstein.
below those are a left;A marked for Assman & Sohne and right OLC marked for Overhoff & cie.

                  kees,

Nice display of badges. Especially the first issue Tank ones.

                  Regards,

Beret insignia are not my focus of collecting and I never realized how many different manufacturers of these do exist. Thanks for sharing your variants!

I don't want to hijack this thread but think I would post these two "customized" pieces, that I found on different flew markets years ago.

As I said, I don't collect these but can't pass by when it comes to curiosities.

Right one is an Assmann Panzer Barettabzeichen with (camo) painted Panzer.

Left one really takes the cake. Golden painted flash and coat of arms of the state "Schleswig-Holstein" instead of the German colors. I never say never but can only imagine that this one was worn "when the brass was away".

                    Enjoy!

proud kraut, unique creative varitions you have there and an opportunity for you with these to direct your focus somewhat more to the BW beret badge and start collecting them.
and if any other people have a panzer badge with yet another maker please post them.
                      all the best,

Hi Kees, no, I will for sure not start to collect them, because I'm CLOTH (patch) addicted. I'll take the other stuff that is worth a second look but not much money ;-)

(If I WOULD start collecting "metal" today, I would constantly remember all those oportunities I left out the last 30+ years...)

You stick to 'CLOTH' Lars and start a nice new thread just for cloth patches!

                            ok Lars.
most rewarding way of collecting is when how much money a badge is worth isn't a criteria.
I do admire people who can restrict themselve to specialise at one subject.
I just have to have it all and as much as possible,24/7.
I hope I didn't left out anything the past 30+ years.
                            all the best,

                              Hi Marc,

can't start a thread about the core of my collection here. That would mean to leave, I'm afraid...

Kees, lucky guy you! With a bulk of children and a house to pay for, I always have to select very carefully, where the money goes. In most cases I have to sell something old to buy something new... At the moment, I'm rather in selling mood...why not cross the border, visit me at home and buy all the other thousends of pieces that have to go now...?

Joke aside, in the past I collected different militaria, Bundeswehr as well, Artillery insignia, US DUIs, Verbandsabzeichen, etc. but almost the lower priced stuff. And I'm still looking out for inofficial Artillery cloth insignia, worn on the Kampfanzug.
