      Schnellmeyer,

Yes it is. If memory serves me right, this is what Steve (resident smock expert) refers to as the second model smock. The earlier model has a small pocket at the botton on the front centre.

      Regards,

      Gordon

Hi Gordon , thanks for your help . This smock also had a small pocket at the bottom on the front centre but it is no longer there , you can still see where it was attached . Pity it was removed . It is also stamped 1944 , any other information would be great , thanks.

Not much more I can add except to say it is too bad the pocket at the bottom has been removed. Both types, with and withour pocket, are rare though. The 1944 stamp is probably spurious. Someone trying to make a post war smock into something that it isn't. There are no BGS or BW markings like that.

          Regards,

          Gordon

Again , many thanks Gordon . I am grateful that you took the time to reply to me . This item is surplus to my collection and not in my field , If I decided to sell it what should I ask ? Thanks.

Argh! What a shame some idiot defiled this otherwise beautiful smock.

These smocks are oddly common on eBay. Expensive, yes, but if someone wants one it shouldn't take more than a few months to get one. Compare this with the 2 pocket smock version. I've only seen one in all the years I've been collecting BGS stuff.

When valuing something like this it wins big points for overall condition, but looses points for the missing first aid pouch. The ludicrous ink stamp doesn't bother me on its own, but added to the missing pouch it's an issue.

Best market for one of these is German eBay with a German description in the BGS section and cross listed to the general BRD uniform area. It will probably go for EUR 150-EUR 200. There's been a very nice one on eBay for many months that is at EUR 250 and hasn't sold.

Correction... the one currently on eBay has a Buy It Now price of EUR 375. It's been there for a long time.
