    Painted desert camo?

I was watching a little "movie" at the site of the Bundeswehr, and I saw something that caught my eye.

Everybody is familiar with the normal Flecktarn Überzug.

And there are also the Wüstentarn ones.

But now I found this. Apparently they didn't use an Überzug but they just painted the camo over the helmet. Does anybody know if this happens more frequently?

    jurggie,

Yes this is done in Afghanistan. If you look at the following thread you can see numerous helmets treated in this way.

    Gordon

Painted helmets are usually associated with special forces. US Special Forces does this quite a bit.

        Hi Steve,
thats right, the German KSK does the same.
Anyhow, also the regular Grunts paint their helmets.
It's "fashion" for the last two years in the sand-box now.

        Cheers,
        Philipp

The guys in the thread I referenced are not KSK. Normal infantry as Phil mentioned.

Damn, there are some cool examples shown in that topic (it's a great topic all the way actually)!

I would like to own one like that!

Yup, normal infantry have taken to adopting Special Forces practices even when there's no practical purpose for it.

In those pictures I noticed a LOT of the KSK trousers and some shirts. Obviously the genuine issue KSK trousers are almost impossible to distinguish from commercially made items, so special clothing is no longer a good indicator either!

                Steve,

Interesting comments about the KSK trousers. How about starting a thread showing the difference between the two.

                Regards,

                Gordon

                  Hi Gordon,

Sounds like a good plan! I wish I had a genuine shirt too, but I do have the real deal trousers. I just have to dig them out of a box. Problem is, I don't know which box as I'm in sort of a mid-construction phase for my collection. I should have the time to check it out this week.

As a quick note, the Bundeswehr does have a special issue set of clothing, as well as a reversible coverall, that is explicitly for special forces use. I don't know if that means just KSK or if it includes other units within the DSO. There are a variety of commercially made items in this cut that appear to be the same, or similar, in construction, but are not procured by the BW.

                    Steve,

Looking forward to the pictures of the trousers. I'll have to look at KSK M uniforms to see if I can spot any differences to what you post.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon
