    West German Overseas cap

    Hi All,
Ouch!! I hope I'm not getting the BW Bug!! Had a chance to go to our gun show and just picked this up today, is it a good one? Is this a regular BW Army? Are there any reproductions to be worried about?
I remember seeing them in piles at our local gun shows and surplus stores (very cheap) a long time ago but haven't seen them in a while.

    Thank you,
    Rodney

Rodney, forget the second half of my PM ... yes, this is for sure a BW sidecap, meant to be worn to the field uniform, made of the same coarse material, and therefore nicknamed "Filzlaus" (felt lice !?!) . Invented in 1959 this dress was meant as official battle dress uniform ... but very fast only used as winter uniform while the moleskin made "Arbeitsanzug" was used instead. This kind of uniform as issued as winter dress until the 80ies but wasn´t used often - according to guys joining the BW back then.
This cap is relatively common so no fear of getting burned by fakes...

      Regards,

      Jens

P.S.: There is no medication against this bug-spread disease ...

Rodney, There was a time I can remember years ago when you could go to any surplus store and pick up the whole filzlaus unifrom, cap, jacket and pants for about $30-40. But this early material is disapearing. If you can find it cheap common or not buy it. Just like NVA (East German) army material that once flooded the market, but not anymore. Its been 20 years since that stuff became availible and it cant last forever.

Jens, This cap is in excellent condition (not issued maybe?). I've notice some on dealer's websites and eBay that has an "A" stamped over the tag, luckily this one doesn't.
I hope to control my BW disease with meds !!! it's kinda catchy.......

PASSAUER8884, I too remembered these at surplus stores, wish I'd picked them up, like you said, they were cheap!!!!!
