    Walter Ehrhardt Has Passed Away

    Gentlemen,

Walter Ehrhardt who commanded two U-boats U-1016 and U-637 during World War II and when he was in the Bundesmarine, commanded U-Hai (ex-U2365),has passed away at the age of 91 on March 3,2011. Do you know what was the highest final rank when he was in the Bundesmarine? Also his later assignments after his U-Hai submarine command. He was the holder of the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st classes. Any decorations Ehrhardt had got when he was in the Bundesmarine?

    Sincerely,

    Edward L. Hsiao

P.S.: Walter Ehrhardt was born on Dec.
    22, 1919.

    Edward,

I've done a brief search and I could not find his highest rank held in the BW Marine or any other details of his post war service. He is not listed in
"Vollständige List der General und Admirale der Bundeswehr 1955 - 1990" so it does not appear that he reached flag rank. I did find a listing for his award of the Flottenkriegsabzeichen as a Lt. on 15 July, 1941. This would have been during his service on the Scharnhorst - May 1940 to April 1944.

    Regards,

    Gordon
