    Brigadegeneral uniform

    Hello gents,

with a little bit luck i was able to purchase this very nice dress tunic from a Brigadegeneral. When it came in here i was happily amazed that the blue shirt was in there, too. So except the visor a complete uniform fron one man.
I normally collect only awards but love ribbon bars too. But i really couldn´t regret this tunic with sewn on ribbon bar because of the history behind.

The uniform belonged to Brigadegeneral Hermann Miltzow. He was promoted to Brigadegeneral on 17.03.65 and was retired on 31.03.68

Here´s a little bit more from him:
    born: 05.04.1910
joined the Reichswehr in 1930 - 1.Preussische Kraftfahrabtlg.Königsberg (he was 1 of 53 Reichswehr officers who served in the BW !! )

    03.01.39 Commander 4.Pz.Abw.Abtlg.11 Magdeburg

Ia (general staff,Operational officer) 719.Infanteriedivision 10.10.44-20.04.45 rank Oberstleutnant

    Commander Panzerbatallion 143 01.07.56 - 28.02.58 rank Oberstleutnant
    Commander Panzerbrigade 18 (Neumünster-Boostedt (my hometown)) 01.07.61 - 31.03.64
    promoted to Brigadegeneral 17.03.65
    retired 31.03.68

Judging by the arm patch i think his last unit was the Panzergrenadierbrigade 17 - Hamburg.

    Awards:

    EK I
    EK II
    KvK I
    KvK II
    BWB
    East medal
    4 years service
    Romania "Kreuzzug gegen den Kommunismus"
Romania Order of the crown - officers cross

I forgot to add that this man served in 3 different armys !!!!

Reichswehr - Wehrmacht - Bundeswehr. What a man and what a history behind such a uniform

          Gratuliere!

A very nice piece of history. But I wonder the man didn´t have any Assault medal, neither General assault badge nor tank or infantry AB.

          Beste Grüße

            Many thanks Frank.

He was more or less always serving behind the front as general staff member and so it is no wonder that he didn´t get an assault badge. For getting the EK I he mustn´t had an assault badge.

But there are a few gaps in his vita which i am trying to close. I hope i´ll find more information about him.

Although this group has never been in collector hands before ( comes from the family) the information about him were very small That is the new generation of family members who have no interest in grandfathers life

Yes, that would explain the KVK´s.

Wow! What a beautiful uniform! And in great condition too. I am glad the family kept this from being destroyed by moths or sunlight.

The two Romanian awards are especially interesting to see. I don't think I have seen them on a BW uniform before.

                    Thank you for sharing!

Rüdiger - Very nice tunic and a great history as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Romanian decorations on the uniform as they were on the "wrong" side in the Cold War.

                      Congratulations on a great find!

                      All the best - TJ

Many thanks to all of you.

I am really happy with this set. One week ago i thought it would be really nice to have an early general here.....one week later that wish came true.
That´s collecting, sometimes you wait years for a piece and sometimes it takes only a week.....
With that history behind this one is a cornerstone of my collection.

Now i only need an early BW neck tie....were these ones changed over the years or are they still the same?

                          Rüdiger,

I don't think they changed very much over the years but that is just a guess on my part. Issue ties with the makers tag on them are very rare so it is difficult to get enough of them together to really say for sure. I've bought complete veterans uniforms that came with civilian ties so it would seem very likely that many soldiers wore civilian black ties.

                          Regards,

                          Gordon

Rüdiger, the ties are more or less identical in design for many years ... give me some time to go through my stock and to meditate a bit if there is one too much from the 60ies ...

                            Regards,

                            Jens

Many thanks for the explanation about the ties
