    BW Luftwaffe para wing patch

Hi there, I am making my first thread in this BRD Bundeswehr subforum for first time. I bought a BW Luftwaffe para wing cloth patch with cheesecloth backing for $5 yesterday along with Canadian para wing patch also for $5 at a local gun show. I will post both para wing cloth patches in seperate BRD and Commonwealth subforums for authentication purposes. Here are pictures of my BW Luft para wing cloth patch. Yes there are some tiny mothings on that wing patch.

redjames2004 - Thanks for visiting the BRD forum. We hope you'll continue to drop in.

From what I can see, you are now the proud owner of a silver class Bundeswehr parachutist qualification badge awarded for a minimum of 20 jumps. A badge with a bronze wreath was awarded after a parachutist graduated from airborne school and completed 5 jumps. A badge with a gold wreath was awarded for completing 50 jumps.

This style of wing was awarded between 1966 and 1983. Army jmpers were awarded badges that were embroidered on a gray backing. The Luftwaffe had blue-gray backings and the Navy black. There was also a stamped metal version of this badge.

I've included a picture of some Army badges below so you can compare the color of your badge and determine for sure if you have an Army or Luftwaffe version of the badge.

Congratulations on your purchase and please visit again.

      All the best - TJ

Hi TJ, Thanks for helping me out! Now I have a Cold War-era West German Army para wing patch in my small collection. I see that LW para wings have blue/gray background comparing to my Army para wing patch on gray background. Yes I see differences in colors of the respective services on those badges you described in your posting. Thanks TJ for posting your 3 different Army para wings in each color- gold, silver and bronze! I am going to look for two more Army para wings in gold and bronze to complete all 3 color versions. Not bad for mere $5! Thanks,James
