    Naval/marine/water???

    Bumping an old thread with an accurate title I need some help with this, please.
    Sorry for some poor photography; I can do more (and hopefully better) if needed.
    TIA!

    Fouled anchor on button over horizontal lines:

    A. Kempf K.G. Oedmiesbach

    Color's a bit darker in real life.
    Thanks,
    Eric Gaumann

      Eric;
      The visor is Bundes Grenz Schutz See (BGS See).
      So water border protection.
      All the best,

          And probably pretty rare. I don't think I've come upon one like that before, and I look for BGS stuff all the time.

            Got it on ebay ages ago and while I don't collect BGS or post-45 hats much I hadn't seen another one of these either. In fact, I did a 'what is this' post about this cap here, some years ago and got not one reply.
            I'm just glad Kees knows his BGS!
            Thanks,

              Gentlemen,

              This is really one strange looking cap. Never seen a BGS cap with a coloured cap cord. Looks like a machine sewn eagle and a hand sewn cockade. If it wasn't for the word "BUND" on the sweat shield I'd be tempted to say this was someones fantasy. I'll have to file this away for research in the future.

              Regards,

              Gordon

                I'd have to dig up my BGS handbooks, but I'm guessing this is the correct cord for junior ranks. The land component had green ones like this for a period of time, so it only makes sense for BGS See to have blue ones.

                Whatever the case is, this is not something seen every day. Or even every other day!

                  In the large BGS thread;
                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=252712
                  There is a picture from a museum with some mannequins on it.
                  One wears a white top BGS see visor with what looks like the same chincord.
                  I admit the cord looks like DDR busdriver or postal at first glance.
                  I went through the BGS thread already once this week so I dare you all to that as well,if you want to see that picture.
                  All the best,
                  Kees

                    Kees,

                    Thanks for trolling through all of the BGS threads on the forum to find these pictures. So I have seen these cap cords before! I hope you can find something on these cords in your BGS Handbooks Steve.
                    As you say, a rare hat. Nice to have pictures of it for the archives.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

                      Gentlemen,

                      Speaking of archives, I should have checked my BGS hats file and I would have found this;

                          Gents,

                          I just went through most of the thread Kees directed to us to and lo-and-behold, I have actually posted pictures before of the hat that is under discussion! Gotta get a bigger memory bank for myself. We sure go through a lot of information on this forum.

                          Regards,

                          Gordon

                            Happens to all of us

                            I wonder if the deep blue type cap is for freshwater type BGS units as opposed to saltwater??

                            Steve

                              Steve,

                              Interesting question. Why would they differentiate? The cloth embroidered cap badges would be less likely to be effected by the salt water than the metal ones but would it be worth all of the trouble to produce different hats for fresh and salt water units? Enough trouble to produce officers and enlisted men's cap.

                              Regards,

                              Gordon

                                BGS WSP cap

                                I can't edit my post above and since I didn't upload the images directly they are gone. So, I've taken some new images since I was staring at the hat today.
                                Any more comments are welcome.
