Beretta mod38/49 (Mp1) and early BW weapons

Yes, the Luftwaffe bought 18.000 No. 4 MK. I (called "Canadian Rifle" because of the Long Branch Canada manufacturer). I have some pics on my harddrive, but the pics are not mine.

The pouches you posted are the same I was talking about. I will take some shots of mine with Mp5 magazines in it and with the 20 rounds Mp1 mag, too.
I will see if I can take my hands on a 40 round. Then I will add a shot for these, too.

Gentlemen,

In the fourth picture from the bottom in the link TJ posted, the guy in the centre left appears to be wearing a canvas British WWII type holster. The Brits used this type of holster with a revolver but this BGS trooper appeard to have some sort of semi-automatic pistol in it. Any ideas on what holster he is using and what type of handgun he is carrying?

The most common Canadian rifle carried during WWII was the Lee Enfield #4 Mark 3 star.

Yes, indeed, seems to be a P37 holster.



Tataaa, a brown Colt holster with US stamp. I will scan some other examples soon. And please note the early Bw-web belt with eyelets. The only example I am knowing is in Munster Tank Museum.

Gents - I think this is the mannequin in the Munster Museum ("Tank Mecca") that hoover was refering to earlier.

When I was there, I thought the .45 holster was brown, but in this picture it looks black. There was no "U.S." stamped on the flap of this holster.

The belt looks like a copy of the U.S. M1936. Examined up close, you can see that the snap button for the first aid kit is pebble finished in the typical German manner whereas on the U.S. model the button is smooth.

The mannequin was shod in double buckle combat boots which looked very similar to the contemporary French model.

This thread is a great example of how questions that puzzled me for years and years can get answered in a day or two.

Here Is one of my green BGS triple pouches filled with three Mp5 magazines (yes in the middle there actually is a third magazine)
As you can see, the magazines fit perfectly.
The mags are stamped:
"MP5 HK"
"10/67"



This pouch is one of the "TWH" stamped. I also have a bunch of these pouches which are not stamped near the D-ring, but on the lower right leather sling with
"8465-12-169-7701"
"BUND"
I can take a picture of one of these too if you want





A photo of the Mp1 magazine will be uploaded when I get to my friend. Maybe this weekend.

Yes, on my pics the holster is still brown US, too. Maybe they got a German made holster and changed it.

There were two patterns of the early web belt, one with US type fastener and one with british P37 style. But I never saw one for sale...

In the US military the M3 Grease Gun was put into all armored vehicles for crew security when in bivouac. Before the M3 the Thompson served this role. I have heard of M3 Grease Guns found in Army National Guard tanks well into the 1990s.

I wonder if one reason we don't see a lot of Thompsons in BW use is that they were stored in the vehicles and, therefore, not usually seen outside?

Yes, I think the M1A1 were carried inside the vehicles. I only knowing 4-5 pics with Thompsons in Bw-use.

I don´t know yet when the M1A1 were removed from service.

M1 Garand 1962
.30 Carbine 1962
M1919A6 1960

I wouldn´t wonder if the M1A1 were removed from service same time like the M1911 because of the ammo supply...

Still no 40 round magazine in my collection, but...



As you can see this 20 round mag is too short for those pouches. And the 40 round ones will be way too long.

Btw ... I found a pic again which I wanted to post from the start:

The Grenzer on the left carries a Mp5 and the green pouch. The other weapons are G1 and Mg42(or Mg1).
