Well, at first glance that would appear to be the case. However, this can't be. The TruVsu 76 trials, which is where "Klein" was trialed, were in 1976 timeframe. The equipment the soldier is wearing is from the late 1980s. And as far as I know they did not trial any helmet covers like that (pretty much regular Flecktarn) at the time. Yet the uniform is not any TruVsu 88/89 pattern I'm familiar with. Well, not for uniforms at least. It looks pretty close to a pattern that has turned up in very lightweight fabric in hats and at least shirts manufactured by TSR.
I doubt TruVsu76 would have been used for OPFOR that late. However, it is possible the TSR stuff was used for OPFOR. Here's some information on the TSR stuff...
Here is the shirt:
It is cut in the old style service shirt. I had one in my collection but I sold it. I've also had a hat in this pattern too, but sold that as well. Both were made by TSR Rothenberg. I know they also made Berets with their labels. Also scarves exist (I have one still).
All the material is the same... VERY thin fabric that is completely unsuitable for field use. My guess is that TSR Rothenberg had a bunch of this fabric made on speculation and then turned around and sold it. I've never seen trousers, but I do think it is likely they made them too.
This photo is found in a little book titled "Uniforms of the Infantry" or something similar. It's a German publication but the copy I saw was in English. There wasn't much in the way of text to explain that photo, other than something to the effect of "this is what the German infantryman of the future might look like".
You are probably referring to Hormann's book "Uniforms of the Infantry". He publisched two books in his English series. The other is "Uniforms of the Panzer Troops". These are saclled down versions of his German language book and the picture you published is in his German language book as well but still without much additional info.
HAH! Well, no. I have no idea where that picture came from, but the one you just posted looks like the one I took at my house Did I trade that shirt to you at some point?
No I got the shirt here , from a gent who said he got it in Germany , is the pic you posted from your house ????
My pic is from my house .
NEVER MIND , I found the original pic posted here in the for sale section and it is the one you first posted LOL , thought it looked familiar !!!
Heh... well, at one point I was taking a white cloth and putting it against Rack #2 to take pictures. At that time the uniforms on that rack were random so if I had taken the picture it would look just like yours
NOW I remember this. The picture I have came from you. You bought the shirt and asked me if it was genuine issue. I had one in my hands at one point and said I didn't think it was part of a genuine test as the manufacturer is well know to crank things out and the cloth is obviously unsuitable for a test. An advanced BW collector (who has way more TruVsu items than I have!) was of the same opinion.
I've seen a couple of these shirts and a couple of the hats (I had two, I think). I have never seen trousers and I have never seen the field shirt/jacket. I might have seen a helmet cover, though I can't say for sure.
My guess is this particular item is commercial, but I honestly don't know what the item is in the two pictures of actual use. It doesn't jibe with anything I've ever learned about the TruVsu 88/89 or 90 tests, yet there is something there (obviously).

I sometimes regret selling my shirt and hat
Steve
I just bought this shirt off ebay it's the same one in the pic came with the shoulder ranks and I matched up all camo patterns. Any body have a clear opinion on what this is?? Thanks Chris-
Based on the cloth and the company that made it, purely commercial item made from legitimate test cloth. By test cloth I mean taking the cheapest material they could to print on to test the either the pattern, the machinery, colors, or some combination. The cloth is certainly not something that would ever be fielded by the BW.
If it was legitimate TrVsu, it would say so on the label. It does not. There were also no service shirts as part of either the 76 or the 87/89 trials that I know of.
