Marineschule Müwik
MSM was constructed from 1907 to 1910 to the design of architect Adalbert Kelm. It was modeled after Marienburg (a castle of the Teutonic Knights now in Poland) as the naval academy of the imperial navy. Later it served as the headquarters of the navy and the training centre for naval officers. The MSM is on the Flensburger Förde. After 3 May 1945 the school briefly served as the seat the acting national government under Grand admiral Karl Dönitz. On the 23rd of May, 1945 The allies occupied Mürwik and arrested the government of Dönitz. After the world war the school was used first as military hospital, then an educational university and finally as a Customs school. In November 1956 the school was transferred to the newly created Federal Navy (since 1990 „German navy "), that now trains its officers there. Since then it bears its current name. The naval college was led by a Fleet Admiral as a commander and is divided into different training's groups and special organizational elements. The sail school ship Gorch Fock is subordinate to the commander of the school. The MSM receive the officers of the navy for general military training. Technical and further training take place at joint-forces training centres of the German Federal Armed Forces and at technical schools of the navy.
