    BW Heer Pilot Wings Opinions

    Gents,
I just picked up this trio of BW pilot wings. Some slight variation between the designs but I believe this is a bronze, silver, and gold set (bottom, middle, top, respectively). Not sure what's already being reproduced in Bundeswehr land yet??

Your opinions greatly appreciated. I'm considering one of these to restore the badging missing on my leder fliegerjacke.

SprogCollector - They look like very fine examples to me, but hopefully Gordon, RamJet or SpeedyTop will weigh in with a more authoritative judgment.

I may have an extra set of wings in the trade box that I could send you if you'd prefer to keep your matching set intact. Let me know if you want me to start digging.

    All the best - TJ

      Sprogcollector,

These look good to me but the best way to confirm that would be to post pictures of the backs please.

      Regards,

      Gordon

        Are these Heer versions?

Yes. These are the Heer version on grey backing.

Photo modified to show the reverse of the wings.

            Hi SprogCollector,

the badge in the middle is definitely not a silver version, I think, that it is bronze.

On a silver badge all is in the same colour, in silver.

            For example:

For a Heer version they are a little bit to dark, or is it an optical illusion?

I have no other Heer badges to compare against so can't comment on the backing color. It matches the gunmetal grey color of the leder fliegerjacke very closely. Here are the same wings sitting on my jacket.

Luftwaffe wings are all on dark blue, correct?

                Hi,

everybody know, that I am a fan of regulations

                And the regulations say:

                Heer: Fliegerkombination, steingrau-oliv/schiefergrau
                Luftwaffe: Fliegerkombination, orange/schiefergrau

The leather jacket is for both in "schiefergrau", slate grey.

And the regulations say for the "Tätigkeitsabzeichen":

"Selbstbeschaffte hand- oder maschinengestickte Tätigkeitsabzeichen dürfen getragen werden, jedoch nur in der passenden Grundtuchfarbe."
                (the highlighting is original!)

Personally bought cloth "Tätigkeitsabzeichen" can be worn, but only in the fitting colour.

Therefore these slate grey "Tätigkeitsabzeichen" are correct for Heer and Luftwaffe .

                Uwe

Don't forget to say for Air Force only on the Leather Jacket. All the other stuff would be blue.

                      Gents:
Thanks very much for your comments!

To my initial question of authenticity, I'm presuming these are originals and not reproductions?

                        Sorry, must say they're original.

Thanks. Very good news. I'd like to try to replace the badging on my Fliegerjacke and wouldn't want to put a reproduction on it. It's bad enough I'm putting on patches not original to the jacket.

Why not, every soldier would do so if it's damaged or faded. BTW, a Repro would be more expensive as an original. On some Shows in Germany we have a Paki guy who sells repros of German Insignias. Most Originals are cheaper on my stand as his repros.

I can't complain. I paid $4 for all three, including postage.
