    Bundesmarine visor

    Hello to the guys here

As i am a typical 57er awards collector i don´t really have the knowledge about the early uniforms of the BW. But the very early 57ers AND the uniforms often stick together and so my interest is getting bigger and bigger.

Today i received this well worn and very nice Bundesmarine Schirmmütze for a "Stabsoffizier". These ones are not so common and i would like to know if we can date that one ??
The book from Kunstwadl is not helping me with this one and i hope one of the specialists can tell me more.

This visor hat has really seen some more salty water...i love that on this one.

Sorry for using a pic hoster....association membership only next month possible...collecting is expensive

    Rüdiger,

These caps are difficult to date with any accuracy. I would say from the early to mid 60s. There are a couple of things that indicate this to me.
    1-the size of the white top of the cap. Early cap tops were smaller in cricumference than later ones;
2-The private maker label on the sweat shield. These are common in early caps. Later ones are usually marked to KKB.

    Regards,

    Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

many thanks for your reply...much appreciated. I hoped to hear that it´s an early one from the sixties and my feeling says that too. The sweatband is leather and the whole quality, even in this condition, is very well.

I searched a little bit about "isko" and found out that they made TR visors so they had the knowledge how to build a great cap.

For me that is really great ....a TR visor maker who made this early Bundesmarine cap

More opinions are of course appreciated here...if somebody has more to say about that one

        Seewolf,

Isko made a lot of hats post war. Not just for the BW but for civilian organizations as well. Here are some pictures of a later hat, probably from the 70s. It is easy to see the differences in size when you compare the two.

        Regards,

        Gordon

Gents - Attached below see some pictures of the Bundesmarine Schrimmuetze I picked up at a gun show yesterday in Concord, New Hampshire, USA.

Although I'm not a Bundesmarine collector per se, I couldn't resist this salty example which some old chief had molded and folded to his own taste.

                  All the best - TJ

Here is a side view. The folds are still evident.
