Knives issued in the Bundeswehr

Hi!

A joke from German law:

During my last reservist month we were told that the new pocket knives are not allowed for civilians because they are regarded as one handed knives (knives which can be open with one hand, and these are forbidden in Germany).

So we had to be sure that we are not carrying one on the way to the barracks or back home because we could be fined by the police.

Had a little time this afternoon and searched the attic for "lost" Bw stuff. These are the Taschenmesser I could find: (f.l.t.r)

This is my Kampfmesser in rather good condition. It's marked "OFW 69". I remember seing the Feldessbesteck also marked with OFW. What's the meaning of OFW (yes, I know, Oberfeldwebel;-)?

If we are talking about knifes used by the Bw, we shouldn't forget the AK 74 bayonet. Not only used by units that used the AK after unification! I remember that all Batteries in my Battalion (W-Germany) received a couple of these for training purpuses after unification. We had the G3 and didn't use these as bayonets of course. They were not personal equipment but stored at the armory.

Funny, writing about the AK 74, I also remember that we received a couple of wooden AK's that we used for obstacle course training (Hindernisbahn) but that's another story.

Just a little Update:
TSR and Miltec is the same.
TSR is the old Brand, Miltec the new, means Thomas Sturm Rottenburg.

This "Modell 1968" was manufactured by Otto Förster, Witzhelden in 1969

This Company also manufactured the "Kappmesser der Bundeswehr Modell 1963"

Phil, maybe both opinions are correct .... depending on the timeline you are speaking of ! All my school mates entering their service in 1987 where equipped with the old knife as this was the standard type at this time. Later on, maybe from the mid 90ies on the new type was purchased. And maybe this was given to KRK units first in the same way as these where equipped with the new flecktarn items while HVK troops in the second line still wore the old moleskin - combined even with NVA surplus - and the old blunt knives...

P.S. : For all those willing to purchase the old stile pocket knife ... watch out as this item (also the old Kampfmesser) is already reproduced/copied/faked by Miltec ! According to someone dealing with this stuff these special items are of a low quality - less sharp even then the original blunt ....

Must add that I allready saw the New Type Pocket Knife with a Miltec Stamp. Both the Pocket and the Combat Knife are of a very very bad blade quality.
Also an interesting addition. Because of the one-hand function of the new Pocket Knife, they're classified as a concealed Weapon and even Soldiers are briefed not to take them out of Barracks. They're only legal to them while on Duty.

This sounds like what happened in the US State of New York. They quickly rushed through a law to limit the number of bullets in a firearm. But they stupidly forgot to except law enforcement and the military! So they had to rush through an amendment so police officers wouldn't have to spend all their time arresting themselves

Bundeswehr Gravity Knife Source

Hi...I have been looking for a source for a Bundeswehr Gravity Knife to replace the one that was "liberated" off my Display at one of our Military shows.....its amazing how people go to shows to steal items.....oh well..../////..anyway...Im looking to pick up a Bundeswehr Gravity Knife and have searched the Internet for a couple of nights with no luck......does anyone know of a source.?...I Greatly Appreciate you taking the time to answer.........Kind Regards....and HAPPY NEW YEAR...to a Fantastic Forum......Hans Fischer

No MIL-TEC, it´s an genuine Eickhorn gravity knife, but, this pattern knife never was introduced in the Bundeswehr.

It´s an "commercial" actually, ( #3 , page one ).
