Help needed about a BW vest

    Hi everybody,

(My english isn't quite good, i'm french so if you have some troubles to understand it, just tell i should rewrite my post. thank you).

I'm new here. Wehrmacht Awards is the place to be if you to talk about Bundeswehr !
By the way if you d'on't speak german language ! Shame on me !

    I just bought a vest.
I would like to have some points of views to date it.
    That's our problem !

I have some information s about it.

    - Wehrbereichskommando 4
    - Nachschubkompanie 740
    - Mainz
It's a "dunkelgrau" one from Sanitätsdienst corps.

If other pics are needed just ask.
    Thank you for your help.

Show a pic of the label. Normally you'll find the date there.

...or, if its custom made, a full view picture which shows the cuffs. If they are doubled it would be made before 1970. But - depending on the fabric texture - it looks as if it is a post 1970 ...

      Regards,

      Jens

P.S. Wellcome to the WAF and its BRD section ... and your english is much better them my french!

Jepp, if there is a label its allways easy....

By the way, the jacket is an interesting one as it must be from the first batches of the "new style" jackets without doubled sleeves. Those jackets where not produced before 1970!

          Regards,

          Jens

Ok does the 10/70 in the middle of the label means

            October 1970 ?

What about the others numbers ?

Is ther a website to learn how to read this code ?

...your allready on the right website !

O.K., sorry that I forgot to declare the label...:

Uniform Blitz ist the name of the firm which manufactured the jacket (item in general)

Q/U12B/ ... is the contract number under which the items where purchased by the german procurement department in Koblenz (Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung - BWB - federal bureau for defenstechnologie and procurement)
10 / 70 is - as you already figured out - the date of production

170/100 is the size: the jacket was made for persons 1,7 m high and 1,o m shoulder width

Not all labels are identical... older items have contract numbers beginning with "US/" (which not indicates an origin in the united states - its just the abbreviation for a special department in the BWB), some show the Nato stock number (NSN, in german Versorgungsnummer (VersNr.), some have more information on the size.... and some do not have a date .
If you have a dress jacket without any label or just "KKB", KKB Koblenz", or "Diolen" you`ve got a private purchased piece or uniform. KKB and KKB Koblenz are uniform "shops" run by the BW itself, where higher ranks could buy uniforms to their personal spezification, Diolen is a kind of synthetic fabric used to sew uniforms be tailors for completely private made uniforms ...

              Regards,

              Jens

                Thank you !
                I'm not a noob anymore !

                Seriously, very interresting.

And now i just to finish it.

Have you ever seen a "Schirmmütze" dedicated to "Sanitätsdienst".

I saw a fex minutes ago a picture of yours
it seems hard to find... is that correct ?

Sorry for ALL these questions, but i feel fascinated.

No problem with questions ... I like to share information as I feel better not to be the only one who is interested in that

Yes, there are visor caps (Schirmmützen) for the Sanitätsdienst. Beside the officers rank wearing the same silver piped hats in all branches there are visors with a dark blue piping especially for EM / NCO of every branch...

                  Regards,

                  Jens

                  P.S.: I´ve sent you a private massage...

Please allways remember. It's the Forums sense that questions can be asked and sombody with the right knowledge answers them. Never be ashamed of a question. As I allway's tell my customers, there are no stupid questions only stupid answers.

This is much better than "there are no stupid questions, only stupid customers". I serve the public and sometimes I do think that applies to specific people However, it does not apply here!

                        Kreitzer,

We all started collecting by asking very basic (not stupid!) questions. Having more advanced collectors, or members of the military, answer politely and respectfully is how we become advanced collectors. Any collector that does not remember this, and breaks the process by not providing polite and respectful answers, should sell off all of their items to those who do. So keep asking and we will keep answering!

Plus, sometimes the most best questions come from new collectors because they have fresh eyes or happen to have something very interesting. Also, different people answer different questions differently This means that even if the same question is asked 10 times there may be some new information learned even on the 10th time. For example, I did not know about the KKB designation even though I know a lot of other things mentioned here. So I'm very happy you asked a simple question and Jens answered it

As has already been said, you have one of the very first single piece sleeve tunics. Very nice!

Thank you guys for your support.

We were talkking about my jacket and you said that it was a "very first model single piece sleeve tunics".

When did BW change to this "new style" ?

                          1967 ?
                          Later ?
I saw some tunics from old style in WAF with double cuffs, there were very nice.

OK, sometimes you also have stupid customers and questions.
You stand on a show, 2 Day's setup, 3 Day's Show and then somebody comes and ask "Do you sell these things" Oh I'm sorry, didn't you read the sign at the entrance what say's "Exhibition only, nothing for sale".

Someone else here probably has a more exact date, but I think the transition time started in either very late 1969 or very early 1970. In my mind I always think of the old style as ending in 1969
