I'm wondering what the blueish equipment was for. Did they have kind of a Navy section?

    Regards, Matthias

      Oberbootsmann,

Great photos. One of the advantages of collecting ZB items is most of them are well marked and your photos really show that.

      Regards,

      Gordon

          Thanks for your nice comments.

I'll keep just the green backpack for my collection.

If somebody is interetsed in the rest of the equipment feel free to drop me a line.

          Regards, Matthias

They also had a kind of Water-Units, but they had the same Equipment as the "Land-Units".
A friend of mine was in a Water-Unit, they had old DUKW's, Water Purification Units etc., so they were trained in everything with Water, also repairing Water Protection Technics, like Blockades, etc.

to the Zeltbahn: Some organisations used triangular model like WW2 in very early years. There was PPBln stamped one with early 50s date (1952?) posted on the multiboard forum awhile ago. It lacked the buttons along bottom edge and had button holes like WW2 however. This one is more like French mle 51 with buttons on bottom edge and no holes, riveted buttons, etc. so reparation production for France could be correct.

blue-grey was only the later colour for equipment and uniforms and khaki was earlier, but both are same organisations THW, LSHD, etc. (not special for water units). I think change from khaki to blue-grey started around 1963, there is more infos earlier in thread.

Great thread showing the THW & their emergency response action equipment & uniforms. Carrying on the good tradition aspects of the Teno / Technische Nothilfe.

Here are some stickpins of the Warndienst [Air Raid Warning Service], which was formed in the late 1950s and disbanded in the 1990s.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find additional information about these pins, but from the design it is clear that the larger, yellow-blue ones are older than the smaller, orange-blue ones. Also, from the different borders (none/silver/gold) it is obvious that they are in the nature of a graded award.

They are all made by Hofstätter of Bonn:

Cool pins HPL 2008 ,thanks for posting.
Did you go through all the magazines posted online ?
I mean the Zeitschrift for zivilschutz.
                    Here's a link to one of those;

                    All the best,

I must admit I hadn't been aware that these magazines were available as free downloads, but I had also posted these pins on the German SDA forum, and another member there kindly helped me out with information he actually found in that Zivilschutz magazine:

The silver pin was for three years membership, the gold one for five and the wreathed one for ten. (Thus, the plain one is either a simple membership badge or perhaps presented after 1 or 2 years.)

The article is in the March 1980 issue. Thanks to your hint I found it online:

To avoid confusion: the 10-year badge I was referring to has a wider wreath of golden oak leaves and is not pictured above.

Another humble addition: A BLSV [Bundesluftschutzverband] patch, a ZB [Zivilschutzbund] patch and what is clearly a trade badge for signals.

I can't positively ID the organisation that used the latter, but due to the khaki color, I am pretty certain it is an early civil defense item. (The same design of a Blitz-in-a-circle is also used on the trade badges for the signals branches of the DRK and THW, but, respectively, on a black and blue patch.)

I've had the ZB piece for a long time; the other two came in a recently acquired mixed lot with some DRK insignia.
