    Gentlemen,

Its been too long since we visited this thread and now that I have something new to add lets start with anything you have acquired since we were last here.
I was surprised to find that ZB not only produced uniforms but underwear as well. Here is a pair of underpants that I just unpacked a couple of days ago. The box they came has been in the rooms I keep my collection in for over a year but I had no place to put the contents until now. Here are some pictures.

    Regards,

    Gordon

And I've added a canteen to my collection. This one is interesting to me because it combines parts marked to THW and to ZB.

Thanks to Gordon who gently informed me abouth this very interesting thread, I like to ask you if the grey colour overpaint means something.....
Funny to see that this helmet, as my collegue who presented me says, has been found in a flea market in northern Italy....!!
And....what about the side shield shade????

In case it isn't obvious to the viewers, the cup goes on the bottom of the canteen and the zippered cover holds everything in place.

The all white version of this helmet was standard issue for the THW in the 1960's for civil defense. This helmet appears to be the white version that has been painted with gray paint, possibly after it was out of service (?) I don't recall ever seeing a gray version, only white.

You can still buy these helmets on the surplus market over in Germany:

There is a great history of the THW uniforms at this wikipedia page, in German though: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histori...formen_des_THW

I have a large collection of THW uniforms and gear dating from the 1950's up to the present time. I'll start taking a few photos and getting them posted.

I know this photo was posted on this thread a number of years back, but here it is again. It is an excellent depiction of the civil helmet in use by the THW in the 1960's:

I have gone through the Early THW-ZB thread and I've picked out a few things from my collection that haven't been covered yet. Hopefully they will help a few of the other collectors and expand my minimal knowledge about them as well!

The first item up is a "rescue saw" that came from a THW station in Germany. I suspect from the color that was originally a ZB saw though. The blade is removable and the hand grip is adjustable. If anyone has more information on this saw, I would really appreciate it!

The next item is a THW-ZB light. This light also came from a THW station in Germany (My good friend is a long-time THW member and scours the old store-rooms for old gear!).
The color also makes me suspect that it was originally a ZB light. It is made to clip onto the belt, or jacket, with the light being removable to attach to the helmet.

Here is the last THW item for tonight. It is a nail-bag that is another "back room discovery" from a THW station in Germany. The nail bag has the original nails still in it. I can not find any markings on it anywhere. Three compartments. I would guess that this would be included in some sort of salvage bag.

                            Marksharky,

Interesting saw and lamp. I am sure that I have at least one of them downstairs some place. I'll have to see if I can find it. I've been looking for the strap for the helmet for some time with no success. I have pictures of one type and no doubt there are others.

                            Regards,

                            Gordon

Since we are back on the subject of helmets, here is the late 1980's - 1990's version used by the THW. This one is dated 1999. 1999 does not seem like it is that old, but I guess it's now 15 years ago!

                                Marksharky,

Very nice helmet. I never get tired of looking at them. Another picture from my files of a newer helmet. Caption was for a Draeger helm.
I wish these things weren't so expensive to ship from Germany!!!!!

                                Regards,
