Allen, I really got lucky, they came straight from the Bundeswehr about five years ago;-) I was at the right spot at the right time. Cost me a little but I always wanted a pair, and you are right, you just don't see them too often anymore in mint condition.

Here is a pair of quite old BW GJ boots. I can't quite make out the date, but my guess is 1970s or early 1980s based on the fact it has velcro. I bought these around 1991.

And for comparison's sake, here is a set of BGS jackboots:

Quite a few differences between this and the BW type. I do not know what the date of the BGS boots is.

Allen, the brown boots pictured in my post below are spare and are available for trade/sale.

Steve, what size are your brown boots? And what's the difference in your BGS knobelbecher and the BW ones other than the sole?

Email sent about the brown boots

Besides the soles the BGS boots have a white interior, soft exterior leather, and longer adjustment straps.

Man... are my GJ boots that dirty?!? I'm going to have to do something about that.

Team - I bought this set of boots off Manion's a few years back.

Manion's claimed they were early issue Bundeswehr ski boots. It seemed feasible and the price was right, so I took a chance.

              What do you folks think?

              Thanks - TJ

There aren't many markings. Aside from the initials "D.A.K" written in marker inside the shoe, there is this stamp "A3 (over) A."

                      Thanks for looking - TJ

                        ski boots

About 10 years ago Sportsmans' Guide was selling those and they listed them as Swedish, for what it's worth. Not that they're a good source for ID-ing stuff...

They are indeed Swedish. If you take a closer look at the tongue, you'd see a series of small perforations showing the boot size and the telltale triple crowns. Sportsman's Guide was practically giving these away just a few years ago at two pairs for $15 (or something like that), in unissued condition. The ones I received were dated '1984'.

                            Phil,

Do you know what year your boots were manufactured? I'm trying to date mine and yours appear to be newer than mine (which are at least per 1991/2 I think).

                            Thomas,

Stamped D.A.K.? Just be glad someone didn't try selling them to you as rare Deutsches Afrika Korps footwear As has already been stated, these are Swedish and plenty of them were sold through SG. I think I got mine through them, as well as the earlier full brown leather version (similar overall look, less canvas).

Which reminds me. I have a set of boots with hobnails and metal cleats. I have to clean them up and see if any of you can help me identify them. Could be mountain troop of some nation or other.

                            Steve

                              Phil,
honestly I don't know when they were made.
I'd say in 2005. They are current issue.

Thanks for the followup. My guess is 1980s, maybe very early 1990s. I know it wasn't mid to late 1990s issue because I already had them in my collection.
